I am Interested in buying this pocket pc for its internet capablities, when used with bluetooth with the t610. My main concern is that, can the iPAQ connect to the internet via normal wap connection, or does the phone need to be using GPRS.
Can anybody else give me more info on the iPAQ, like what software is avalable, what are they like to use, how good is the internet (ie with complex sites with frames, java etc), and what are the games like?

I use the ipaq 5450 with my phones and can help a bit.
you will need to connect the ipaq using internet GPRS rather than wap in order to view pages using pocket IE or to send and receive email. pocket IE does have some wap capabilities but I have never used it that way.
As for software, the best place IMHO is PocketGear so check out all the stuff there.
if you are a PC user then you will have no problem using the ipaq as MS has designed the UI to operate in a similar way.

That could be a bit of pain then, as i get free wap, but not GPRS, will the iPAQ work at all with a wap connection or will it be to slow for it to work?

I use my hp ipaq 5555 for writing html, java scripts and some easy programs. And for hardcore gaming, sms, mms, email, you need special programs for that. And virii writing and u can digital via sd or cf card

Could anybody with Internet explorer mobile on a pda test it with a wap, not gprs connection with their phone via bluetooth, and let me know how good it is. This would be v helpful as i want to get the pda, but not if i am going to have to pay gprs bills to view the net.
Also which is the better pocket pc, the HP iPAQ h1910 or the Compaq iPAQ h3870, i think the HP looks better, but looks arn't everything.
Obvosly the ipaq 5450 that massuer has is better than the other 2, but is over £150 more, and i don't have that much money, am looking at £200 max, and both the HP iPAQ h1910 and iPAQ h3870 are less than £200 on expansy, in factory recondition, with 1 year garantee, I think they are cheaper on that site then ebay, and there is no garantee with ebay.
edit:
Ok,eat my own words, the h1910, is only £120 on ebay, factory sealed and refurbished with a years manufacturer garantee, to me this seems like a bargin, as they are over £200 in some places.
What do you rekon, worth the cash, or is the better for the money, bearing in mind i want a pda with windows software.

Right,
Am starting to build up software on my pc, so i can put it onto me ipaq when it arrives. What file types will an ipaq, with windows pocket pc be able to reconise. Will it be able to read, mp3s? windows media player movies? What file types are games, exe?
Any help with file types would be good.

Anyone,
When i open the exe files that i have (age of empires etc), it trys to install the game to the pc, is this correct? when i have my ipaq connected to the pc will it auto install on to the ipaq, not onto the pc?
Also divx or mpeg-1, can the ipaq use either of these movie types, or do they need to be converted first?

I'll start by saying that pocketpc executables will not run on pc and visa versa.
however, some pocketpc applications that you install from your pc will install a pc component and indeed this will show up in the add/remove programs list in control panel on the pc. Also the components that go to the pocketpc are installed in a folder on the pc so that if you later remove them from the pocketpc you can reinstall them from the add/remove programs option in Activesync without the need for the original install disc/program etc.
when you install a pocketpc program and the pocketpc is not connected activesync keeps a note of this and when you next connect the pocketpc the program will be transferred to the pocketpc from the abovementioned folder.
I only use WMA for music on my pocketpc but I'm sure it plays MP3 and for video WMV
One of the first things you will want to setup is avantgo and you can go to the Avantgo web site now and create a free account and setup the content you will want to sync to the pocketpc. As an example of the sorts of things available I have the following content in my avantgo
