I have made the setting as TONE when an SMS arrives.... but this volume is really really low and I generally miss all the SMS that come in (I get to read them only later when I look at the screen of the phone and it says "New Message")....
Is there any way to increase the volume or to select a longer tone so that I can be definitely notified?

Look at: http://esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=4308&forum=2#post41620 and then e-mail SE about it so they understand that there is a problem. The more people we are who notify them, the bigger chance they listen. If people don't make themselfs heard, SE wont know that there is a problem with the low sound.
The soundlevel for sms should follow the soundlevel for ring tones.
