i just bought a samsung p400. the design is really great, the 180 degree rotating camera is cool (design is like that of samsung v200 minus the external LCD.. plus the 180 degree twisting LCd (or the upper half of the folder phone/clamshell))
at first i thought this phone was cool because of the design, the camera and twisting LCD, also its sound, with 40-poly, and mmf (SMAF) tone format, it has GPRS, MMS, WAP, JAVA downloading and other older features that are carried over.
BUT the CONS are horrible and made me hate samsung at least until they've improved. here are:
IrDA is not compatible with any other phone brands (unlike SE, nokia and others), because of this i cant transfer the pictures i've just taken to my friend's phone.. so... what's this for?? pc sync?? oh, it's got a data cable included in the package. (well, they just gave u an option.. for pc sync... haha)
none of its models has bluetooth or at least USB support.
downloaded ringtones can be stored but CANT be deleted at will? correct me if i'm wrong.. but that's what i experience.
and yeah.. it has JAVA download support, but only for games, not for applications..
mmf (SMAF) tones - i was so happy to find mp3/wave/midi to mmf converter on the net, but after conversion of wave or popularly called true tones or real tones, i never want to convert any wave anymore.. the sound just SUCKS... but it does sound good if u're playing midi or 40-poly/16-poly mmf.
typing an sms is always a downfall for samsung, u'll have to press the upper left button to shift capital 'ABC' to 'abc' and press again to choose desired punctuation marks or special characters.
these are some of the cons... what do you think? consider buying samsung for the next 6 months?
oh.. by the way.. samsung p400 is out in the market 1st-2nd quarter of 2004, but i have it already, and i hate it. | |

well the P400 has been out quite a while in Switzerland and already had this and other Samsung Fons in my hands.. and honestly i sold them everytime..
you can delete those downloaded ringtones by going to Funbox i think and go to sounds or something..
but Samsung always makes a very tempting design to buy but all in all i wouldn't buy it anymore.. |

Well,when i bought this,i had the chance of buying the v200 which was 40% more expensive and its only plus being the design and the tft screen.The cam is just the same-cif. They wont change a bit cuz this is the line they produce,always been like this.The phones r toys,the sounds,the menus,everything.They didnt even change the type of batteries,their st-by time is awful. Not4a heavy user i'd say,just4show-off.
