Are they stored alphabetically or what? i tried putting the tracks on and then changing the track name to e.g. 01, 02, etc but they always come out in a random order.

i think they are stored in the order you put them onto the memory card.

If not that, they must be random!

They are stored in the order you copy them to the mmc. they are not stored alphabetically or numerically (ascending/descending). so if you want to create a special ordering of your play list, copy them to the mmc in the order of your list so Track 1 is the first in your list, Track 2 is the second song in your list, etc....
