Hi guys

I just bought a USB cable off EBay and am struggling a lot to get my pc to connect to my phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The phone charger part works fine but when I flick the switch on the data cable to the data mode, things go downhill

One of the problems is that I have old firmware so that I cannot use the latest Communication Suite from SE because I have "Events" as opposed to "Calendar".

The synchronisation program that came with the Comm Suite failed to detect my phone.

I managed to install the USB driver correctly though but in Hyper Terminal, I was unable to type any characters when connecting to COM3 (where the USB cable is).

Does this mean I should give up on USB and buy an IrDA adapter? Also, is it necessary for me to get my firmware upgraded somehow?

Many many thanks in advance

Josh

Thanks for your reply, will they still be willing to upgrade an unlocked phone for free?

I'm in England - just found out that the nearest service center to me is not actually very near at all! There isn't one in London.

Since your phone is less than a year old, and assuming you can show proof of purchase if neccessary, then you should be able to get the upgrade free.

The main carphone warehouse in Oxford street (in the shop where the gadget shop used to be) has a service centre downstairs and I am sure they do firmware upgrades there. The only thing is that it has been mentioned that CPW are not authorised service centres but I haven't checked that.

lol @sony_eric. Yes, it is true.

@masseur - You're right, the Carphone Warehouse do upgrade firmware ... from £30.

I think I am going to purchase an IrDA first for my computer and try that before anything else. Soon, I will have spent so much money on my phone that I may as well have bought a T610 to start with
