Hi,

Since 2 days ago, I experience horrible things with my T300 and a no-name IrDA adaptor. I read all esato (and not only) IrDA topics and tried various solutions, but with no luck. Maybe someone can help me...

The adaptor connects dirrectly on the IrDA header on the motherboard, it disables my secondary COM and is controlled by the UART 16550 from my motherboard. The resources usually used by COM2 are allocated for it, and there's no resource conflict, as I double-checked and even changed the resources allocated by default.

I enable it from BIOS with following settings:

Mode=IrDA; Tx=Hi; Rx=Lo; Delay=Enabled.
The possible settings are:
- Mode: IrDA & ASKIR (in ASKIR Win doesn't detect it, so it's IrDA)
- for Tx & Rx can be set Hi & Lo (for anything than Tx=Hi & Rx=Lo no connection is established)
- Delay: Enabled/Disabled, same behaviour for both settings

I DON'T have Half/Full duplex setting in BIOS;

Operating sistems used were Win98SE and WinXP Professional. These are the installation steps I performed:

At boot, OS found IrDA and installed it. Win98 installs VirtualCOM (also VirtualLPT and Infrared Network Adaptor), whilst WinXP installs no Virtual ports, but only the Infrared Network Adaptor.

I checked the driver in device manager - no conflicts, identified as 'Built-in Infrared Device'

I went to Control Panel - Infrared (or Wireless Link) and ensured that is activated, automatically searches for devices and allows file transfers.

I also installed latest SonyEricsson Communication Suite which set up Mobile Phone Monitor.

When I enabled IR port in my T300 and placed it near the IR adaptor, nothing happened. No activity detected by the computer and no device found.

When I send sth. from phone to IR adapter (pic, contact), for a short time the IR link is created and the phone is identified as 'T300' device by the computer. Though, T300 gives up with 'No device in range' error message.

I adjusted the link speed to various values: 9.600, 19.200, 38.400, 115.200, with no luck.
Under Win98 i set the COM4 (virtual COM, associated to IR adaptor) as the only one Enabled and Reserved in Mobile Phone Manager.

Under XP I tryed also to associate an Virtual COM port to the IrDA adaptor, and eventually found an IRcomm driver which allowed me to do this. When I tried to use that COM in Mobile Phone Manager, it gave an error message saying sth. about 'IRStack' and 'IRPorts', (like dirrect addressing not supported by the operating system), and dis-enabled the port.

Mentions:
* IR communication between T300 and a Mitsubishi Trium works (I can send business cards from T300 to Trium. When I try to connect the Trium to the computer, I encounter the same situation as above (when it tries to transmit sth., it's identified, but afterwards the IR link breakes);
** I successfully connected the T300 to a Laptop (with built-in IR, using Win98) and transferred files with no additional software. It recognized the device when it was placed in range;
*** I changed two IR adaptors of the same model;
**** I successfully connected 6610, 6100 and 6600 phones with no problems using these two IR adapters, but on ANOTHER computer with another mainboard; I don't have one now to check if they work with the IR adaptor on this computer;
***** I also do own a serial cable, successfully connected the T300 by it and uploaded backgrounds, ringtones etc, but of course, I can't transfer the pictures taken by MCA camera to my computer. When I tested the IR adapter, I re-installed Windows and all software, so no data regarding the serial cable configuration was kept.

-----------------------
about connectors:
- IrDA Adaptor presents 4 independent wires which can be connected on the corresponding pins from mb header. The wires are labeled Tx, Rx, GND, VCC.
- on the mainboard where I managed to connect nokia phones, header also had only these 4 pins
- on this mainboard where connection can not be established, the pins are: (Rx GND Tx +5V RxH VCC GND) ; When I place adaptor's VCC to mb's VCC, the led on the adaptor doesn't light up (although the device is detected by Windows). BUT if I use +5V pin instead of VCC on the mb, led lights up. Could anybody spot the difference between VCC and +5V? Until now I thought they represent the same electrical signal.
- my trouble mainboard is a 'LuckyStar 6ABX2V' with BX chipset.

Thank you if you had the patience to read up to here.
I would appreciate any little help.

There is nothing wrong with you Irda adaptor. It must be a software issue.! Try 2 change the I/O or Recourse setting in Device Manager! I know there are no conflicts...but just try.
You can also try to search for a bios upgrade. or newer BX chipsets.drivers [addsig]

I'll say the motherboard is no good, especially it's not a major brand.

ESTOR: I tend to agree with you, I'm just asking myself why the f**k did they have to put an IR header on it
