Hi everyone sorry if this has already been posted I'm a total newb!
I've got a laptop with a standard IR device on it and I can't seem to activate it.
I've got the device enabled and all that but it says it will display infered activity when a connection is near by but when i wave my phone next to the port it doesn't do anything.
Can someone advice on what I could try to get it working please because it's driving me insane |

Also I don't think you should be waving the phone. Its IR port should be on a straight line with the IR port of your laptop. The IR post is usually like a small glass window

@Acid Zero
You didn't answer what masseur asked. Did you turn on the IR on the phone? I have no problems connecting the p800 with a laptop. You can turn it on by going to Applications>control panel> Connections (tab on the bottom) >Infrared> and select PC connect and ON as well

On a lot of older laptops (and some newer ones too), you need to enable IR in BIOS

I think that the laptops IR is working continuous.You have only to turn on the phones IR and to bring it near to the IR port on the laptop.

What about the laptops IR Port settings, don't they have to be changed to the same speed as what the phone is capable of? |

Speaking from experience with my old laptop. The IR was disabled in BIOS by default. Before I could use IR, I had to first turn it on in BIOS.
[EDIT]
As for speed, the default always worked for me (note that I neither use nor have IR any more, so I can only talk from past experience). Can always try changing it to 9600 to see if it works.
