OK, I've always been a huge Ericsson/ SonyEricsson fan and supporter (And I'm sure I've expressed that in numerous posts). Not a blinded fan though. If an other brand comes along with a respectable mobile, I'll surely give it credits and even recommend it to others.

The only exception is usually Nokia. I don't trust them anymore. I've stopped doing that some years ago, when they started releasing phones with 'deceptive features' or serious flaws, while they front their models as 'kings' or the 'supremes' of the mobile market. Flaws are usually not-properly-working features (Such as the incompatible, non-working infrared port on the 6610) or the overall downgraded quality on all their latest mobiles (They are turning into the definition of 'plastic feel'). By 'deceptive features', I mean that they add new features to new models by removing previous features, thus never having a 'complete mobile' in their line-up.

To prove you my point and to show you that this is still going on, I'll choose their upcoming mobile, the 7600. Among others, they front it as the smallest 3G mobile, up-to-date. Only that there is one small detail: It doesn't support video-conferencing!!! One of the most 'basic' and 'important' features of the 3G network!!!! Well, with that kind of 'smallest' and 'extraordinary' models, it makes me feel like Nokia is underestimating people's awareness or that they taking advantage of the lead that they had in the mobile-market.

If they continue like this, the damage on their mobilephone-empire will be much greater then they imagine. Especially now, when all of its opponents are getting sharper and tougher than ever!

PS. If Nokia would get back competing on a 'clean' level, think of how much higher the average quality of the mobiles would be raised!...

lets hope there is no flaming... lets hope there is some well thought out discussion on the points made you have to admit, if it is correct, that it is an obvious omission from Nokia though.

It's certainly correct - no video conferencing.

The key layout leaves a lot to be desired as well.

Personally I can't see this being a good seller and I think Nokia have lost the plot.

you know there's a review of 7600 at mobile-review, though in russian......
but you can still translate it with babelfish
as for nokia, i agree they are making more bad quality phones this year, And it seems like they have really lost the plot......
though they would still make money....

Most people dont care for the latest functions they just want a phone you can do a call with. For them nokia is the perfect choice, but for gadgetfreaks like us its only plastic crapp. Still nokia is realeasing their phones like its the best on the market and people is buying it. They think its a nokia and it have to be the best phone cuz they whas reading somewhere five years ago that nokia is making the best phones in the world, but most people is so slow that they dont realise there is other phones to.

Someone called my phone a nokia once and when i whas telling him that it is a he told me that he know and he used to call all mobile phones for nokia cuz that is much easier to say than mobile phones and nokia is like a "other word" for mobile phone. Can you belive it???

The IR port on the 6610/7210/6100 etc works. It's designed for use with PC Suite but it can also be paired (for receive) with at least Nokia Series 60 phones (sorry, I don't know any better). What it doesn't do is instant share type of file transfer (I think due to copy protection of downloadable ringtones, wallpapers, Java games etc) with any device like SE phones. And what do you mean by removing previous features? The only one I can think of is the 8310 having voice recording/dialling and the successor 7210 not having them. That has since been corrected in newer Series 40 phones. Complete mobiles mainly attract tech geeks and heavy business users which form a minority of
users. SE's strategy is to have 3 phones: Smartphone (P900), fashion/business phone (Z600/T630/T610) and a youth phone (Z200/T310/T100). With Nokia there is so much more to choose from (if you are now thinking "same shit different covers", please study the 3100, 3200 and 3300 for example) like a game deck, durable phone (5100, 5140), EDGE phones, messaging phones (6800, 6810, 6820) etc.

Surely you must realise that it's not gonna be their only 3G phone (can you sense different 3G phone categories with 6650 and 7600?). Or the most important one. It's NOT the one they plan to conquer the market with like SE plans to do with the super expensive Z1010.

People here say "Nokias are sold because of the brand that was good 5 years ago/in the late 90s". But if they have "continued like this" (making crap phones) since then, how come their market share has only been increasing?

What do you mean by average quality? An average customer wants a colour screen and polyphonic ringtones. Maybe Java, GPRS and MMS too. Nokia has that. And different looking phones from any other manufacturer.

I like SE but hate SE users

I have 2 agree with 1. Nokia's covers are creaky. Se's are oval better 2. They take out phones like mad without full functionality. 3. I don't have nokia but only feel there are serious flaws. And it seems like Nokia's are full of got air. I agree that phones like 3310's 3610's were master pieces.

Well, Nokia themselves have something like "we don't belive that videconferance is something our customers want". Not exatcly that, I know, but something like it. And I totally agree, their customers wont want that, since they'll get no customers...

Surely the main selling point of 3G phones was the video confrence thing, how can you release a phone claiming it 3G without it!

In Cebit Turkey, a Nokia-worker (the head of Nokia-Turkey or sth. like that) confessed that "they only mind the the sms'ing and talking part of the communication and put the other things such as IR, MMS, Java, Poly-melodies, etc. because they are in most of the new phones from other manufacturers"...

Now that I've heard that statement, there is no more Nokia for me... I don't know if I should be or ...
