Hi All

After spending hours struggling to have my NT laptop and my Ericsson T39 communicating
together thru IR I can share with you a couple of tips that lets me do it successfully :

First tip is to use QuickBeam a NT driver for the Ir port of the laptop

You can download it here (note that it is not an opensource software) :

http://www.extendedsystems.com/ESI/Service+Support/dlfiles.htm?cat=Infrared-Software

Under W2K you can apparently use an opensource software called Ircomms that you can download here :

http://www.ircomm2k.de

(I was not able to install this one under NT)

The extendedsystems web site include a knowledge base that seem to be very valuable.

Next tip is dedicated to Compaq Armada and Evo laptops users :

There is a case in the Compaq support site (dated December the 27th !) to explain on how to set up the laptop to have QuickBeam working without conflicting with the built-in
modem.

http://www3.compaq.com/support/reference_library/viewdocument.asp?source=PS011109_CW02.xml&dt=3

Just follow the procedure : it is working with my ARMADA M700

Note on the procedure myself I have :
- upgraded the BIOS but never found any option to activate or deactivate the IR
- not changed the PowerManagement software (that was a nightmare to install)
- applied the procedure strictly regarding the IR set up and the modem driver installation

The good news here is that using this configuration you can now HotSync your Palm thru the IR port provided by the QuickBeam software.

Final tip is to install the Ericsson cable modem driver (instead of Ericsson IR modem driver or Ericsson Bluetooth modem driver) on the port that is provided by the QuickBeam software. (COM4 if you have followed the compaq procedure).

At the end I can connect to the WEB just using my T39 thru the IR port (running fine at 115K).

I don't know why the IR modem driver does not work I suspect it to require the IR driver software that is provided on the CD that is coming with the T39 (but that seems to be
working only on W2K).

The forums on the www.esato.com/web site are also usefull for Ericsson users.

Hope you will find these tips usefull and regards

Hello,

How do you connect to the Web - using the IR modem on the T68 and Internet explorer? By Dial up? Do you know if you can use GPRS? How do you set up the laptop to use GRPS to connect to the web?

Thanks & Happy New Year
