Been trying to make some new logo's for myself for some time now and have finally got the hang for it. It sweet making your own logo's, that way you can have a somewhat unique phone. BUT...... (there is always a butt somwhere....)

It makes you wonder how people are going to make money on logo's in the future. This has been a HUGE business (in norway at least) and I can't imagine it's any smaller elsewhere in Europe. Now we can cruise the Esato wap site and download whatever we want for our phones and the only people who make money on it is the gprs/gsm provider. How to get people like us (esato users) to PURCHASE backgrnd pic's I can't understand. Would you pay 1£ for something you can get for free?

But some users will always pay for stuff they don't need....

There was an article in a norwegian web based newspaper about a norwegian firm developing security software for MMS. The system works as follows. It watermarks the image and each time you foreward a MMS pic, the original provider get's paid the same amount as when you first bought it. So if you download an AliG pic from an official site, get charged 1£, you will also get charged each time the thing get's forewarded. This is scary, what if it's sent to 10 people and then they foreward it? Now There must be some block to handle this, but I don't like it. I pay fore it, IT'S MINE. Same with music. I pay for it, I can piss on it, wipe my ass or ripp it into mp3's.

Now this scares me a bit, the cost.....

If an ordinary MMS cost's 10NOK (1,25Euro) , the price for a background pic has to be higher. So let's say you pay 15NOK for the image, then get charged 10NOK more to send it to Mike, then you get charged 15NOK because Mike now has it. Thats, let's add up here, that's 40NOK.

Are these people stupid?

There is always ways arround things, but the future looks grim for free downloads. When this MMS thing get's up and running, the companies are going to buy the rights to certain images/company logo's. Then they will search the web, find sites like esato and DEMAND they shut it down. This MMS/Background pic's thing might just get almost as big as the napster bullhit we all went thru, but this time it might just work, because we have to use Vodaphone/Telenor/Orange to be able to send MMS....... They will certainly not sit still and watch money fly out off their arse.....

Now if this thread seems dissorieting, it's because I overslept today and there was NO MORE coffe when I came in.....

I think you have misunderstood something. If you forward copyright content to someone else, you don't have to pay it. The person who receives the content also pays it. So you pay only about the content you receive.

There's always complaining when we have to pay something about something. Everyone wants everything and it should always be free (e.g. java apps). Someone has to create the content, before users can download it. Somebody do this for living and I think they are right to get paid for the job they've done. I don't think that you work for free either or do you?

telesaint: there won't be an option to monopolize the market with pay only backpics/ringtones. Esato will live forever!

btw. people wasting lots of money on ringtones and logos are pretty stupid.

@TeleSaint

I read the same articel as you. What the web site did not write was that all new SonyEricsson phones have something called "Limited distribution" of MMS messages. The content providers can mark any object downloaded in a MMS message as "limited" to provent it from beeng forwarded to another phone. I guess Nokia and the other manufactures have some kind of similar system. I think Nokia and Ericsson this time are working closely together with the MMS standard. We wont see Nokia having monopoly on MMS as they did with SMS logos and ring tones.
