hi all,
I would like to start this thread and dedicate it to the t68i or phones with same menu system (not to upset our cousins using t68x's) who are using gprs over the voicestream network.
I personally am having a horrible time getting gprs to work consistantly on my phone. I have all the proper settings (as far as I can see or have been informed by voicestream), and even called a tech support line in the UK where they sms'd me the proper settings and it still gives me gateway errors and time out's.
AOL IM, everytime I try to into this link, I get the gateway error below...
If anyone can help, that would be great.
My favorite is the "gateway recived an invalid responce from the upstream gateway" error; then it tells me to check my settings.
I am in the Miami Market, and well...i saw AT&T's gprs network in action today, and I was very impressed. Very fast, with no errors.
I get very inconsistant service, I am wondering if my settings are correct and it is the service? Since our GPRS networks are new and still getting the kinks worked out...or so I would like to think..
if you have input, please post....
thanks

I am in Palm Beach. I was also having trouble with Voicestream. I switch in Dec to AT&T, and it is much, much better. Reception for calls and GPRS is great. I connect with my powerbook with Bluetooth and GPRS and the speeds have been close to 33.6! The only problem is that I had to buy their phone ( a cheep motorola) and then put the AT&T SIM card in my T68i. Other than that I have been much happier with AT&T over Voicestream.
Also, AOL IM should work over GPRS on AT&T by November.
Hope this helps.

Interesting, because I am very pleased with Voicestream data now, both in New York, and Miami, with WAP over GPRS on the T68i. It has been substantially faster than the T68m I had, and is very reliable -- I used to think VS had such unreliable GPRS, but really, the case was the 3+1 of the T68m, compared to the 4+1 of the T68i. I used to carry a Sprint phone around all day, to access my AOL mail, since Sprint has always been really reliable for internet access. But now, I am a pretty happy camper with VS and the T68i.
Just my 2c...

drez -- i too have been having awful time with gprs on voicestream (in ny area). here are three suggestions that seem to work for me:
1) try the settings given on the voicestream page that is linked off of "Resources" on the left here rather than those suggested by the vstream techies
2) try "conn oriented" rather than "connection less"
3) get the public gateways posted here and use one of them (try the ericsson gateway) instead of the vstream gateway. (i think the problem is in the vstream gateway itself, and one of the techies admitted as much to me yesterday on the phone).
to do this, leave the data comm settings (including the APN) as they are. in the wap settings, set up a new profile with the alternate gateway address. before starting the wap browser the next time, go to "select profiles" and select the new profile you created. then go to your bookmarks. (you may need to create new bookmarks for the profile; alternatively, you can create new bookmarks and then save them to "all profiles")
let me know if that helps |
