hey I was looking around in the service menu (>*<<*<*) on my T616 in the Text Labels section and I found AIM related text like "AIM could not be launched" and "Defline IMs" in there. is there some sort of hidden feature or something to get AIM on my phone?

yeah, alot of people noticed this when the T610 first came out but there is no hidden program that anyone has found yet, just the text labels

Can you edit text labels? Why are they there to be viewed?

no you cannot edit the text labels and they can be viewed, as smash said, in the service menu in the "text labels"

Yeah I know you can view them- is it for a 'just out of curiosity', 'for your information', 'by the way' addition to the service menu?

Cingular now will offer AIM in its services. I think it will be about 2-3 $ per month.
