Best way to get work in a mobile phone in my opinion would be to show a complete lack of knowledge of mobile phone technology; a lack of interest in the customers; the ability to do sod all whilst there is a que reaching out the door; the ability to try and sell someone something who clearly doesn't need it and can't possibly afford it, but you will try anyway; oh and of course the most important skill of all, you will need to be able to tap the one key on a keyboard repeatedly when confronted with a situation that you can't handle and use the computer as a means of fobbing the cutomer off.

I hate to say it but in my experience of UK mobile phone shops all that would make the person overqualified!

Depends on who you are appying to. Just be as honest and as open as u can if u are applying to one of the network chains then customer service is the key. (Yes for all u sysnics out there, retail does have a lot of muppets but not every store ).If its a multiple like Carphone or phones 4 u. Then sales. My advice though is that if u are interested in working in that industry then stick to a network chain. |

Also...if you dress like your mom never taught you how and don't wash for a day before applying, you stand to get the job on those qualifications alone.
Don't brush your teeth, either.

yea be yourself... it helped me that time i got jobb in a mobile phone shop, that i had a little bitt knowlege about every service the operator, you want to work for, could give a person. something like what is GPRS , UMTS, and staff like that.. that is very important. and of course knowlege about phones..
cheers

i know this is going to be out of place-but stop moaning about the shops, i know some are bollocks, but if you know that dont bother going into them.. simple.
the majority of the time we are having to sort out other peoples problems which as you all know take time especially as we have to phone up customer services as well. today for example. 25 minute wait to set up dd for a woman, then another 25 min to make a payment for her. 3 phone calls lasting about 15 minutes about problem with transfering credit. then 20 minute phone backs to customers to expalin what is going on. all that from 9-12. so i was out of action for all the morning to help out 3 customers...just to let you guys know what really goes on.
..back to the question.. depends which chain you go for.
phones4shite just blag it, impress you can sell biros and sell shite to nokia owners
link = ditto
carphone need sellers but also good cust service to uphold reputation.
the main networks want customer service first and sales second because they believe the name is big enough to sell on its own.(ie you become box shifters)
product knowledge is advantage but not that important (although being christmas time it would help alot) |

cos cust services are just as crap to dealers as they are to customers! infact worse. slow computers, not allowed to talk to us etc... and im in o2 retail!
o2 retail.- salary= basic sales of about 9500-10500, bonus every 3 month depending on store hitting targets and depending on what product can get gift vouchers for goods. i saved up 7 months of vouchers and bought 32" sony, dvd and video. for doing my job!
