IR and Firmware help for poor newcomer. |

Hey Guys,
I most humbly request your help as I am so new to all this. Please could you give me a good answer and not tell me to read 100's of pages of other FAQs because my time is limited
My questions then:
1) How do I transfere files from my T610 to my HP Laptop (with XP) via IR? I can't seem to find an option or programme to turn on the Laptop's IR anywhere. I know it has an IR port, and simply trying to send from the phone in front of the port does not work. Maybe I need to download a programme for my Laptop?
2) Could you please tell me how I know what Firmware I have? I brought my phone new and am extremely angry it has such bugs that show it has outdated Firmware.
3) What Firmware should I upgrade to and how can I do this? If I can send the files I have on my phone such as phonebook and pictures, I can happily overwrite the Firmware. I assume what I was told is right: updating Firmware deletes your phone's files and settings, yes?
I thank you so much for listening and trying to help a new user. Bless this formum!
MK.
PS: I managed to BlueJack someone whilst watching The Matrix Revolutions. I told them "The Matrix has U.Wake up!" I heard a beep in front of me and the man was looking around looking puzzled. Maybe he will try and contact Morphius now? |

1. Many laptops have a BIOS setting to enable IR and to get into the BIOS you should look for a message when you start the pc which says something like "press DEL to enter setup", sometimes its the F2 or other key. Check your pc manual. Assuming you are using Windows XP also go into the control panel and check the settings in "Wireless link"
2. To check firmware you should have a read of this...
Answers to the most common questions on Esato Forums (FAQ style)
3. That FAQ also answers these questions. So far no firmware update has caused the loss of any phonebook details or pictures for me.

since it's a dell laptop and not one you put together yourself, the ir should already be set up in the bios. there should be some sort of dell options-type icon on your desktop or start menu some where (my ibm thinkpad has this) and from there it will give you the option of turning it on or off. i bet this is what the problem is. plus, since it is a dell, you can just give them a call and they can probably help you. you can also check in your device manager to see if it is working or not.

Aw no, sorry. It is an HP, as I said in my post. Not a Dell. No easy options for turning IR present themselves in my XP software. I've done searches and looked everywhere. It would appear it simply doesn't exist as an option in the software. I know I have a port - I can see it. Maybe I need to D/L a programme for managing IR communications. |

Try E-mailing HP support. It may take a while for them to answer but it is free. But if you are in a hurry, call them up. Phone support cost a bit of money.
