I got GPRS today and can wap
and recive email w/o problems.
But if I try to send an email
it looks for the smtp server finds it
and connect to it then does nothing just
keep trying to send untill it eventually reboots.
It's not a dns problem IT DOES connect to the smtp
server.
Anyone else got this problem?
Anyone know how to fix it, does the new software fix it?

I'm having the same problem, except for my phone rebooting, instead it just says: 'Send failed'. |

I'm investigating what the damn client is trying to do
I got full access to an smtp server so can check network
traffic so far I got.
T smtp.ip:25 -> xxx.xxx.phone.ip:1029 [AP]
220 smtp.name ESMTP Sendmail 8.12.2/8.12.2/Debian -5; Tue, 16 Apr 200
2 20:53:40 +0200; (No UCE/UBE) logging access from: host-xxx-xx.mobilehostname (OK)-host-xxx-xx.mobilehostname [xxx.xxx.mobile.ip]..
And thats a standard mess all connecting clients gets.
But the phone just stop doing anything after it gets that reply.
It wont try send anything else.
In other word its a major bug in the software unfortually
Is there a list of Changes in the new software update?
Common you ppl that work at service points if there is
you should know where right?

Well, let's ask the inverse.
Has ANYBODY successfully sent POP3 mail over GPRS? I am told emphatically by VoiceStream here in USA that you cannot do it with their GPRS service. Maybe that's a common limitation at the moment with GPRS as it is now.

Yep,..I'm using it every day,..works all the time.
But what I did find was this : with the T68m my pop-server could be a "name/adress", but with the T68i it has to be "ip-number".
So my settings are :
pop-server : my internet-providers pop-ip-number.
smtp-server: my phone-operators smtp-ip-number.
That works for me

Well it does not matter if I type in the IP or host pop3 and IMAP4 both works nomatter its only sending that fails snmt it does connect to the server but then dont send anything else prob. cause it waits for something or has gotten into an infinite loop. I sure wish i had the source code :)

Ok this is what I done so far.
Tryed connecting to all mail servers using both ip and host
no diffrence It always connect to the smtp server it just
dont try to send anything.
Someone said it could be the SP that hinder sending email
but thats not true. It does connect!
I also sent email using the GPRS connection using my
Laptop connected to the phone and that works w/o problems
so the GPRS connection is working good and its not limited.
Its the build in email client in T68i R2A014 that has a bug in it
making the phone crash or fail sending of email.
I sent an email to about this, I hope the new software has
a bugfix for this problem.
Has anyone been able to get mail sent with T68i R2A014?
In that case what server? It could be it only works with some
smtp servers, perhaps it parse the greeting string wrong or perhaps
if the smtp servers greeting string is to long theres a buffer overflow in
the email clients code in the phone.
My phone always reboot after trying to send an email.
And yes I tryed it with several smtp server both Telias and
my own (I work as admin for an ISP).
(As a side note I can also inform that T68i's email client do
not logout from the pop3/imap4 server after it's done either.
It's not that serious since the server will just timeout the
connection later but its still bad coding)

Seems my hunch was correct about the client having problem
with some smtp server msg'es.
The servers I tried that make the phone crash has all
been using sendmail (very popular smtpd)
The server I made it work on runs exim smtpd.
Not that this makes me much happier, it means I
will be able to make a workaround but there still will be
alot of ppl out there who can't send email since sendmail
is one of the mostly used smtpd's
need to work on the email client in T68i

Dear Consumer,
First of all we want to thank you for your valuable suggestions.
There is new software available for the T68i but unfortunately I havent gotten the information on it's features yet.
You should take the phone to a service point for upgrading, and I'm pretty sure that the R2B version will solve the problem.
Best regards,
Marko

upgrades. or the one in Bollnäs.
