Nokia Phone Numbering, Miss-Concept? |

Have anyone here pay attention to Nokia Phone Numbering?
I thought that Nokia has numbered the phones in wrong or miss-conception. Other brands would number the phone in ascending to show upgraded or updated from the previous, but Nokia did it in "random" (?).
These are some examples.
3310 then comes 3300, 3100
5110 then comes 5100
6110 then comes 6100
6610 then comes 6600
7650 then comes 7600
Mention this: almost all latest color Nokia phones numbered with "00" in last 2 digits and the first Nokia phones numbered with "10"in last 2 digits.
Why Nokia numbered the phones in sometimes random and sometimes descending style?
I guess this was because Nokia never has the good concept for phone numbering like SE or other brands do.
Just a thought...

I think its more in line with the functions. Although sometimes even that goes out the window! I think the reason the last digit isnt used is cause 1-9 are prototype numbers from designers. I read it somewhere so I cud be wrong!

Well Series 40 affected the numbering a bit, you now have many phones that end with "00". It's complicated, but it does make sense at times. Like you have 3100, 3200 (camera phone) and 3300 (music phone).
also before there were triband phones the 10 in the end could mark the Europe/Asia version of a phone that had 90 in the end of its name in North America. Like 3310, 3390, 8310, 8390 etc.

My theory is that they use the numbers to confuse ppl. They know that ppl are only buying their phones because they are Nokias and for no other reason. They are trying to spit out as many numbers as possible and confuse the general public into buying a phone they have no clue about.. haah |

No doubt Nokia model numbering is all messed up... but how do you guys explain these...
T310 and T230
T68 and T600
Does it really matter what model numbers are used. I'd rather look for features and functionality and thats where is tops.
Though no one has been able to beat Nokia's implemention of T9 yet.

It is hard to keep the same numbering concept in 10 years, because of changing markets and techs. Think it's time now for Nokia to re-organize the numbering. Ericsson had changed the numbering for maybe two or maybe three times. Sony Ericsson did also changed the previous Ericsson plan. It could have been a bit confused on a few models during the changing period, but the line up plan is still very clear for Ericson/SE phones.
