Hi there

I want to buy a new phone in the near future. At my provider the phones available are the Siemens S55 and the Sony Ericsson T616. For the exact same price. I heard the S55 is more function and is better for businesspeople. What do they mean by that? I check the comparaison, the SE seem to have better screen and more advance sound processor. Anybody played with both.

Also I hear of t630 comming out soon, what's the big deal? Only better screen? the T616 is not too bad either right? is there any other phone in that price range that would be a MUST? is that 850 New Frequency really make a difference.

In any case, from experience what do you see as the pros and cons of each phone ? How good is the SyncML on the SE?

Thanks
Spectre

PS:

I just checked the coverage at my provider... they have a pretty nice map describing each country what frequency is supported. you can check it out ( http://fido.ca )

now it seems that the 900 frequenc they dropped is the one most used in europe and africa along with 1800. Does this mean that the T616 will not work properly or will be limited in those area? Or is it planned to have all out support for 850 in the 900 area near? ( makes me wonder if the support for 850 for 900 has any advantage ) I'm worried my phone would be useless if I travel tru europe...

S55 was concidered as t68i opponent, not t610/616 which is next generation. S55 would hardly beat t68i, even though it was almost a year newer (java+polyphonics). More questions ? T616 kicks s55's ass except 1 thing: siemens phone have very flexible file system - it looks like another drive in windows explorer. I don't know about frequencies, i've never been to USA/Canada and used another but gsm band phone.

I guess I should get the T616 or try both if I can. In the mobile world new phones will come out soon anyway right? What do you guys think would be the ultimate phone with good price that does all continents for a gadget lover and traveller like me? Maybe something not yet released but upcomming.

When you get the T610, let me know how you compare. I wish we had the T610s here and not the T616 that's make me so happy.

spectre... the T610 and T616 are the same phone except that the T610 operates on 900/1800/1900 and the T616 on 850/1800/1900

As you're in North America, the T616 should allows yuo to use both North American bands.

However..... My phone has no 850 band, yet my reception ins North America has always been excellent (mind you... i was alwiz in metropolitan areas)

If you travel to Europe with a t616, i doubt you'll have any problems... as most providers use 1800 rather than 900. You should be ok.

S55 has got bluetooth as t610 but worse screen, polytones, gprs. T630 will also have a video recorder software. Now in europe still many providers use 900gsm like greece, germany ,italy. So, if you won't use 850gsm system buy t610 and not t616. It will help you more. ;-)

S55 has class 10 gprs. Also works incredibly well on the 1900 frequency. Better than t68 or t610 for reception, and i have used all three, had my s55 for nearly a year. Sent my t610 back within 14 days. Only thing that lets it down is bluetooth which is not well implemented.
