I've attempted using Sony-Ericsson Image Editor to transfer animated GIF files from my computer to my T610. Unfortunatly, it doesn't work. When the file is done, it only shows a single frame of the GIF file. If I transfer it directly to the phone (This is all done using IrDa. I have no problems downloading MIDI files for ring tones) it will only show an hourglass symbol which is, I'm guessing, the way the phone shows a file that it cannot interpret. I don't understand this because my friend has given me (via his T610 using BT) a file that is a GIF file that I can transfer to my computer. Can anyone help? Thanks

First of all, I dont think that the SE image Editor can show animated GIF, I dont really know cause i dont use it. But the same goes with an Adobe Photoshop.

I can only view and create animated GIF using Adobe Image Ready.

If you are using an infrared apparatus to transfer your files wether Midi's, GIF's or JPEG's and are able to transfer it, then for sure you are able to view or listen it on you phone.

The "hourglass" symbol is not a sign that the file you have transferred cannot be interpreted, this means that the phones processor is "busy" interpreting the file. This is specially much true if the file you have trasferred is quite large (usually more than 60 kb). Dont try to view large files right after transferring to your phone, wait maybe a minute or two.

The signs most common if a certain file is not interpreted are:
1."The file is not supported by the phone" and
2. "Unable to open file"
These are common especially when downloading java applets that are not supported by the phone; These can also be the case for other files,
and these are shown on the phones screen.

How big is the .gif file? Whenever I've transferred an animated .gif it's always taken a while to actually appear in the preview if the file is big.

Sorry about wasting a post but I found out that I was doing all the right things. I just wasn't waiting long enough for the GIF to initiallize. A friend of mine actually helped me out (the same friend with the other T610). All I had to do was wait. Stupid me! But yes, it is possible to transfer a GIF file via IrDa or BT in its original and uncompressed form, provided you have enough space in your phone. I've down loaded up to 100 Kb GIF files and they've all worked. The larger the file, the more you wait for it to initiallize. However, once it is done, you;ll never have to wait for it again. I use GIFs as my screensaver, and picture messaging. I don't know if it'll work for picture IDing. The best (and possibly the cheapest) way to get a GIF to your phone is getting either a BT or IrDa ready computer in front of you and scoure the web. Once you've found one download it into your phone, and you're set. There are also GIF making programs out there as well. Sorry if this is old info, but I figure if I repeat it, the next guy using the search will have a better chance of finding what he/she needs. Thanks guys!
