Is it possible for you new P900 owners to extract the Communicorder from the P900 firmware? |

So that we P800 users can use it?
This would be great! |

Tried to take out the files from a P900 prototype, but it didn't work. Maybe I did it wrong? |

Wouldn't it be possible to use the 'back-up & restore' function?
Do a complete back-up of a the P900... then 'restore it' onto a P800. If that doesn't work, then I don't think it's possible without the original CD installer. |

What do you expect from a backup/restore or SE Cd's?? lolll
This is not a data or software issue but a firmware issue, and those are naturally not backuped or present on the CD but only in the ROM of the P900, you will never be able to extract it.. logic |

But as since October 31th 2003 we will be able to download the P900 firmware online from Sony///, it should be possible to manipulate it. Hope for that - don't want an ugly P900! |

Blue, where does it say that Communicorder is a FIRMWARE issue and not an app? |

It is not a firmware issue:
Lets say we have the original sis file, and we want to install it on the p800, i think the installation will give an error that the phone is not compatible with the software!
If i had my hand on a p900 i know how i can manipulate the software to work on the p800, jut like i did with the Camcorder. It is very simple actually, but as i said, i dont have a p900 yet!

I don't think there should be any difference in apps that the P900 can run over the P800...other than seeing mroe colors on the P900. The CPU on both phones is identical.
If my guess is right... knowing SE engineers... the 2nd CPU they added is for the phone functions, and has nothing to do with the multimedia part of the P900. This setup was done on the older R380 since Ericsson/SE focus on the phone functions more than anything else. The P800 had a few multitasking issues with crashing when a phone call came in running certain apps.
The CPU of the P800 is more than enough for mobile apps. And adding a more expensive CPU would jack up the price of the P900 a lot more than the market is ready to pay for... however, adding a low-cost, old-model CPU to handle the call/phone section of the P900 would not cost them too much, and off-load the ARM CPU to be dedicated to the multi-media side of the P900... since the phone section doesn't demand a lot of CPU power, this would be the most cost effective solution.
I'd be very disappointed if there are apps that the P900 can run, that the P800 cannot. There aren't enough P800 apps out yet and developing apps for the P900 shouldn't be any different from the P800... other than the color-depth...which the phone can scale down depending on the screen.
Anyway, that's just my opinion on the whole Communicorder thing... The fact that Camcoder works means that the P800 can handle video no-sweat. It's just that the UIQ version of the P800 doesn't allow access to the video stream, or a decent file management system. It's all software related... the P800 hardware can handle it. |

Is there a appart .sis file for this software.??? It's a part of the build-in firmware of the P900, a part of the ROM... You will have to "break" or hack the firmware to get the software and the .API you need, and then you will be able to make a .sis file. |

Blue, when u format your p800, and restart it, u will see the OS is installed, everything works,
How is this possible? How does the p800 know where to get the files from?
These questions are already answered, the p800 gets his files from the Rom drives, these rom drives have .sis and .exe files to install applications!
When u look at the rom drive of the p800, u will see:
:System\Install\someapplication.sis
Think about it, the p900 uses the same OS, symbian!
So that means, the p900 also has install files, that can be copied from the rom drives, BUT as i said, maybe if we have the original file we cant install it on the p900 (just like the camcorder compability with early firmwares)!
So that means, i also need the original map from the rom drives so that i can make a .sis file (i know how to make a .sis file ) and try to install it on the p800...
Do u guys agree? Actually it is very logically what i explained above...

welll we all hope that you succeed but i really dont think that it will work... why didnt SE release the application for recording video for the P800 too if it worked? |

thats so simple:
because video recording is just another "pluspoint" on the comparision chart for the p900.
its all about marketing and making money. thats called "capitalism" |

Herc....what the FUCK does that have to do with capitalism...Wow...you ARE retarded. I do see a VERY VERY VERY VERY slight connection, but its so slim it doesnt make a difference! What about the T68 - T68i Upgrade? HUH? hmmmmm....I thought that was called capitalism |
