I've been looking for an irda port to attach to my desktop computer at home and I've found this one really cheap :

This might interest some people, downside: the company is in France and site in french. |

Hobbes....
many of todays motherboards have a contact for a IR-port... and then you just fasten the IR-port on the chassi of your computer |

yep that's right. Most 'post pentium' PC's have that type of connector on the motherboard. And it's really cheaper than those serial to IR cables I've seen so far. |

Does anyone know how firmly the standard for these IRDA-ports are followed, ie. can I be reasonabely sure that a cable I buy will suit any motherboard with an IRDA connector?

I have made a telecoms dictionary for the Babylon translator (http://www.babylon.com/) called "GSM Abbreviations"
You can find it here:

Btw, I have also made a dictionary on International Relations (really, really of topic in this forum )

actually Im using the IR port simular with those pic above. I brought it for 35 canadian
with that 5 pin connector, I can use it connect to my Asus and MSI motherboard. just be sure to adjust the transfer rate to 9600 when under XP. Win98 would be no problem with even maximum speed.
Most importantly, check your motherboard menu b4 doing any decision.

I'll probably get mine by the week-end so I'll tell you how it works and eventually post some pictures. |

This is slightly more expensive, but fits nicely in a desktop drive bay, and you have 2 sizes to choose from.
I am using this on a ASUS board and works great.
