I just had an impulse to buy a cheap HBM-10 on Ebay which has no software. I have a Media card writer on my PC and need to know the format of the data to wrire (directories, file extension etc)
Or does someone know where I can get hold of the software?
Any help to a newbie appreciated

First, I don't think you need the software. As I remember the software did nothing close to good anyway
Second, make sure that you've got a MMC card and not a SD card as SD cards don't work with the unit.
Third, I can't be 100% sure on this (I will post another post later today when I've got home and checked.), but I think you don't need any directories on it. You simply drag and drop the MP3 files with the reader. Make sure that you have the MMC card formatted to FAT and not FAT32. |

yeah that's right. no directories needed. most mp3 players are like this (excluding hard drive ones and ones on phones (sl45)). |

You need software!
Download it here:

You only need that "software" if you are using the card reader that comes along with the unit. But since you've got your own reader and that reader with the unit is VERY slow anyway, so you don't need the "software".
PS. Its more like a driver |
