What is the Bluetooth Pairing code for? |

I noticed that when I paired my T68i with my wife's HBH-30, I had to enter some kind of pairing code. I entered "0000" because I hadn't changed any settings at that moment.
My question is first, what is the point of this code? Second, can I change this code for my phone?

U can enter whatever number u want as long as she pairs and enters the same number.

It's some kind of security you know... I don't think you would like it when somebody else starts printing a 200 pages document on your bluetooth printer... Hence the code in bluetooth applications.

The code, known as a passkey is one of a few pieces of information that produce a 128bit number known as the authentication key.
Each time the T68i/HBH30 make a connection, they use the authentication key to check that the two devices are allowed to communcate. If one of the device can not provide the correct authentication response, the two devices will disconnect from each other.
There is a menu option on T68i Accessories|Handsfree|HBH that willl allow you to change the passkey on a HBH30 from the default 0000 to any four digit value you care. If you ever forget the value, the HBH30 User Guide provides a way to reset the device back to the default 0000.

Bluetooth pairing is done so that each paired device always knows about the other and can confirm it by giving the correct code when an operation is attempted.
With  bluetooth headsets that I have seen lately you cannot change the pairing code from 0000. It was actually possible from the phones accessory menu when using the HBH-10 (and possibly HBH-15 too).
