hello Esato people.

first post as you may or may not know. anyway.

I own a t610. I have owned 2 BT Dongles (MSI and Trust), i returned them, after failing to get connected. So i bought another dongle (CSR), blaming the dongles as the problem. But, the third dongle still does the same.

By the way, before i go any further, im on windows xp, does this matter? Ive read about winxp not supporting BT, however if XP doesnt, win98 wont have a cat in hells chance, surely.

Anyway...
The basic procedures for each dongle was: Install the drivers/software as you would with anything. Then try and get the bugger to work.

Basically. I have installed the drivers/software, I come to setting up the dongle in the supplied Widcomm Program, it asks me to give my PC name, then add Bluetooth Serial Services and Server Serial Services (or something like that) now here, with the MSI we could at least click the button, and get to the next stage, but on the Trust, and this CSR wont let me add anything, just click the button in vein, with nothing popping up. So basically I cant get any further.

The other approach (going into control panel and running the config wizard) brings us to the stage of trying to find Services, but in explorer, no services are listed, on all 3 dongles we have never had a service listed.

After trying 3 dongles and numerous Widcomm drivers/software (drivers tried: MSI / Trust / TECOM / Anycom / CSR -- software tried: mRouter) and never managing to get any where, I gave in and blamed the phone.

I have been told that there is some hacked Bluetake drivers/software which cater for all dongles (or near enough) does anyone know where i could find these?

Regards,
Vini

I have used MSI and Trust dongles with no problems whatsoever.
If I had all the answers, I wouldn't have any questions.

I'm using a D-Link at home and a Belkin at work and haven't had any problems really with either (apart from Belkins lack of driver updates grrr), but it actually sounds as if there is something wrong with your PC if you're having that much trouble ! You're installing the software before you plug the dongle in aren't you?

i consider myself to be of a good understanding with pc's so i dont think im doing anything wrong.

i was just wondering if its because ive used Cheap dongles, however people say theyve got the MSI working so...

i use msi dongles, they're cheap, and they work well. it doesn't always mean that cheap adapters are shoddy products.

XP doesn't support BT natively. but you can make it work in XP machines too.

with regards to the modified BT drivers thread, they're in the technical forum, just use our favorite SEARCH tool to find the specific thread.

You can also try disabling driver signing, and downloading the latest drivers from the manufacturers web site.

Hacked drivers will not solve your problem.

Finding out the reason why the drivers will not install on your machine.
Hacked drivers is basically the same bluetooth stack as you are already having problems with, with the hardware drivers for dongles that havn't yet been released with that stack.

Have you downloaded the latest drivers from the manufacturers web site?
Uninstall all bluetooth drivers before trying to install.
Make sure you have got all the latest updates for windows.
First install the software, then plug-in the dongle, when you are asked for it.
If I had all the answers, I wouldn't have any questions.

... Perhaps a silly question...

But you have enabled BT On the T610 and also set visibility to ON, and not HIDDEN ?

yes m8

as for getting it to work on my machine, well ive now tried 6 pc's 4 fully upto date (patched) xp's (3 pro, 1 home) and 2 windows 98 machines.

the 98 machines seem to work the best, but still dont fully work.

I'm using a Belkin Bluetooth USB Adapter 100m (Model F8T001) and had no problems. I'm running my on a Dell Inspiron 7500, Windows 98SE, and a SE T610 cell phone. My software version is 1.4.2.10. I've also tried it on a Windows 2000 Desktop Compaq Pentium 4 with no problems.

I be honest with you, the first time I installed the driver without the directions or carefully reading the screens, I could discover devices, but I could not access my GPRS on my cell phone to surf on my laptop. I uninstalled the drivers and restalled, taking my time and reading the screens carefully, and everything worked fine. All of the support bluetooth profiles work fine. I can even receive a phone call and talk through the microphone and listen with my speakers on my laptop. That was an added bonus I didn't even think about.

I've read all of the horror stories about the Belkin's adapter and can now say that they got it right.

All I can say is that if your OS is stable and you follow the installation instruction carefully, you should be fine.
