Is it true that when it comes to GPRS, that the T68i has one time slot more. According to the Sony-Ericsson Helpdesk in Norway it supports an overall greater speed when it comes to GPRS than the T68m.
Then it is not right to say that the T68m and T68i is the same phone (after upgrading the T68m software). |

No idea, the specs look exactly the same. Maybe I'm missing something? |

Yep its true.
T68i has 4+1
T68m has 3+1
Wap is also different, T68m has 1.2.1. and T68i has 2.0.
I dont know if this will/can be "changed" in the upgrade ????

SOftware WILL be the same as T68i, BUT now I actually have the T68i, i have to admit that there IS and always will be a difference! The buttons, joystick and feel it MUCH better!!! Screen is nicer too!!!
T68m still rules as well though

Maybe they ment that it supported faster GPRS than the T68 does now (before the upgrade)??
That's my guess.. Or the other alternative would be that they didn't know what they were talking about..
But the best way to find out is to wait until w.20 and see..

The man I spoke with at the SE HelpDesk said that the T68m WILL support Wap 2.0 and xHtml after the upgrade. But the speed of the GPRS would not be the same. So I'm pretty sure about that, but I'm looking for facts from Sony Ericsson.

Escobar > I believe you're right. Wap and xhtml should be a "software-thing",..but I dont think that goes for timeslots (gprs).

@jh67
On page 26 in http://www.ericsson.com/mobilityworld/developerszonedown/
downloads/docs/t68I/t68i_t68ie_wp_r1a.pdf
it says that T68i supports 3+1 timeslots
On page 15
http://www.ericsson.com/mobilityworld/developerszonedown/downloads/docs/t68/whitepaper_T68_R1A.pdf
it says that T68 supports 3+1
So no differences the twobetween the two in supporting up-& download speed. |

Well, according to the man at the SE HelpDesk the T68i supports higher speed per. time-slot than the the T68m. And he meant that there was 4-1 time-slots. Which might be wrong!? |

The phones are identical due to some change in the Bluetooth part - right!
That means that if the i-version has one more timeslot then the m-ver. - also the m-ver. will get it after the SW upgrade!!

I would say the guy at help desk are wrong, it wouldn't be the first time either. They seem to bee overloaded with work and hire some students from time to time to answer q's...
Mail him back and ask if its wrong in the official documentation(white papers) and that forgot to tell us that on the FAQ page, http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?template=SP1_10&B=ie&PID=9773&LM=SB_V&noredir=1#1668

I spoke with him on the phone, I didn't mail him. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about, he also knew everything about esato.com and about the complaints about the T68m not being the first MMS-phone in the world (all the complaints esp. in Sweden, mobil.se).
He could be wrong, but said he had facts in front of him that said the speed of the GRPS in T68m and T68i were not the same, and he also talked about the FCC-documents.
But he might be wrong!

Well, I can put a penny on that his wrong.
But more important is what does the network support for tranferate.
It says in T68i White paper that there is four diffrent code schemes, cs, cs1=9.050 bps, CS2 13,400 bps, CS3 15,600 bps and CS4 21,400. It also says that cs3 and cs4 are not supported in any live network, i.e present speed limit is 40.200.
I think the operators not going to implement cs3&4 this this year, which means I have no use for that T68i supports higher data rate, but the 4+1 I can use and have a limit up to 40.200+13.400=53600.
But I wounder how perfect the conditions has to be if any operator can promise me QoS 53.600 bps.
Anyone nows if it(53.600) will works in downtown when traffic is heavy and a snow storm comming |
