Microsoft sucks at producing mice just as much as they suck at everything else they do. Logitech is better then Microsoft, there is no question about that.
I use MX-700, it's the best mouse I've ever used...

It's smooth, perfect motion. Havn't jumped once. Make sure your reciever is at least 20cm away from any electronic equipment (including the mouse)

If it is a ball less mouse, is your mouse mat one solid colour? Sometimes that makes them jump, try a mat with a pattern on

Yeah, it works much better on a mouse pad with a pattern/picture.

I suppose it's a matter of personal preference, but Logitech has always provided the most stable, reliable, well designed hardware. You look at a microsoft mouse and you think - "which hole did this climb out of?!" The logitech looks great, rests perfectly in the hand..., like I said, the best mouse I've ever used. (We use Microsoft wireless at work)

I also use logitech cordless mouse and keyboard, not sure what model but the mouse has a red light at the bottom.
Its much better than the MS ones I have used but the only problem I seem to get is when a call comes in the signal interferes with the mouse and keyboard so I either don't get characters or mouse movements on screen, or I get alot of them!
This means I cannot talk on the phone and use the mouse and keyboard unless I angle myself in such a way that the phone signal stops the interference!
