Ok lets start at the beginning... assuming you are using bluetooth, have you got the ipaq and T68i paired?

yes, the devices are paired and communicating i assume. when i try to CONNECT the cell phone seems to be trying to dial but it just shows "calling ###" and then stops, after two tries the PDA tells me the remote modem does not respond... so i thought the problem may be in the cellphone or the service provider... do you have any experiece dial-up-ing with these two devices? i would be really grateful if you could help me out on this one. thanks. |

although I mostly use GPRS these days I do occassionally still have to dial up. I currently use an ipaq 5450 with a T610 but did use the T68i before with same results.
With dial up, if you have a working dial up from your pc its usually a matter of transferring the same settings into the ipaq and unlike GPRS there is no settings required in the phone itself (i.e. data accounts etc).
As always when helping people with ipaq via pc to internet I suggest taking the ipaq out of the equation and get email working on your phone. For this you will have to set up a data account using the ISP settings and then setup you email to 'connect using' that data account.
Assuming that all works you then know you have viable dial up settings and then you can re introduce the ipaq after double checking the settings you have put into the ipaq are the same as those you put into the phone.
Having used ipaq via SE to internet dial up in Australia, UK and quite a bit of europe the only time I have not been able to connect over dial up is when trying to connect to certain ISPs in germany where they charge against your phone bill and so they disallow mobile phone dial ins because they cannot easily control that.
So you should be able to get this to work.

Hmm, thanks for the info but the problem is that even though i have put all the ISP information exactly the same into my ipaq, i still have problem connecting through BT with the cellphone. when i try to call from the phone directly my ISP's phone # i can recognize the modem trying to create a connection. however, when i try to connect from my PDA (independently from my PC) i get that error message (it is "no modem at that number"). is it possible that my ISP recognizes cell-phone call and blocks that?, even though that doesnt seem to be the case since the phone doest even look like it connects to that phone # since it just stops after maybe 3 seconds after trying to dial. i can see that on the screen of the cellphone. then can it be my cellphone service provider who could block GSM data calls??
what i am trying to do is simply be able to surf the net or check my email no hotmail with my ipaq using GSM not GPRS which is expensive.
thanks for any help!!!

tell me the number you are trying to connect with and the name of the ISP and I will see if I can get a connection at least up to validating login which will obviously fail since I don't have an account.

hmmm... ok well it connected for me and the error I got, as expected, was "your username or password is wrong..." (I am in UK at the mo)
To setup the ipaq I just went into start - settings - connections. In the first drop down box I clicked on New... and entered the name for the connection then clicked the modem tab where I then clicked new again and entered the name of the connection again, chose the bluetooth dialup modem from the "select a modem" list and set the speed to 57600.
After clicking next I then entered country code 1, area code 626 and phone number 628 0088
I then clicked next and clicked finish and then I clicked OK get back to the connections screen.
I went into the dialling locations tab (at the bottom) to check my local settings and then clicked on dialling patterns to ensure these were correct local=G, long distance=FG, internation=00,EFG for me
I then returned to the connection screen and clicked on connect where I got the results mentioned above.
Thats about all I can do to help so I hope you spot some difference in your settings compared with mine!
good luck!

btw. I am still using pocketpc 2002 on my ipaq 5450 as the 2003 upgrade won't arrive until next week apparantly, so just be aware that there may be slight difference in menus on your ipaq which I believe is already running pocketpc 2003
