Come on guys, forums are here to help us, where we can ask questions, and to those of you who go around from topic to topic trying to be intelligent by repeating the same phrase, "Use the Search"..
Sure we will use the search, but what if it doesnt help?
we all started here not knowing anything, and because someone joins and asks a question, its very unfair to jump down their throats.
think about it, you are a baby, and the minute you ask someone a question, they say "USE THE SEARCH"... i dont think you will feel appreciated or very welcome- LOL
no seriously, we are all here to learn and to help and to teach.
give your say...
do you agree or disagree?

damn... got moved while I was typing!...
although this has been discussed a few times lately I will add my 2 cents. I rarely, if ever, say "use the search" personally. In preference in cases when I think the search has not been used I do a search and show the results by leaving the full url to the search available to see, making it clear how I found the results, whereas for other urls I generally hide them with my now famous "here" or "this thread" type links.
I do think alot of people are lazy considering how little effort I use to find them results but I also think the search system itself can be improved, most notably by removing the omission of key words that I enter!
what does irk me is when someone comes into a thread that has already been answered and the only contribution they have is a comment to "use the search" with that user-the-search smilie (which is not really aptly named as such!).

search: use the search
This gotta be the most popular phrase on Esato. Way up there with "How do I turn off clock screensaver"
[EDIT]
@masseur:
About the people posting "use the search" in already answered threads... I have to agree, it's the most irritating thing I know. It's like they can't be bothered to read the thread and just plaster the "use the search" down.
I guess some people use it as a cheep way to keep the post count up without actually putting in any effort to help...

Most regular users on Esato agree that the search function is pretty poor. However, two points:
1. Quite often, *I* use the search function to answer someone's query (simply so, as I recall that threads containing the answers exist, but I can't quite remember where they are). I don't have too much trouble locating the answers, so neither should the peopl whom I'm trying to help;
2. Blatant posting on subjects for which even a cursory glance of the other threads would reveal a thread already exists is all to frequent, particularly by new users, but is in my opinion inexcusable - the attitude here is one of "I can't be bothered to read other threads, but I need help, so read my thread".

I actually remember someone post once that he knows it has been asked many times before, but he couldn't be bothered to search... That sort of behaivior can be extremely irritating.

I partially agree.
Certain threads clearly show that the poster has not bothered looking for the answer him- or herself. In that case i would definitely include the famous words in my reply.... altho I try to reply to the question as well.
There is nothing wrong tho with pointing out to such a poster in a polite manner that the board does have a search facility.
In other cases... certain things have been put onn this forum for 1000 times... when you hit search, you will get all of them but may still not find your answer coz it's just too clogged.
And finally.... using the search would be even better if the search would no longer exclude key words from the search ( ) and if the forum would be cleaned up a bit (moderators, I am begging you!)
Finally: for the search smilie: it's been added on my request, because at the time there were ppl everywhere being exteremly rude about how 'stoopid bastid idiot wankers' and other nice descriptions (you all get the idea) were thrown at every poster with a not very original question.
I kinda hoped the smilie would at least make ppl a bit less rude to ano another. I am still not sure it did actually.
So all :
