Going through the forum, I noticed that many members often ask why SE does not include many Tips and Tricks discussed in Esato in the Users' Guide/Manual that comes with the phones. Just a comic relief of some sort, I decided to start a new thread on the "Reasons why SE does not include Tips & Tricks in Manuals."

To start off, here are a few reasons:

1) So when we go to an SE service center, the people at SE can perform these special tricks in front of our eyes and, as George W. Bush says, "shock and awed" and we will be so impressed that we will believe in everything they say.

2) Because the people in SE want to make life more exciting for us. Or is it more complicated ?

3) So that Esato members can fiddle with their phones to the brink of destruction in order to teach the some old dogs at SE new tricks.

4) So that Esato will continue to rule the SE forum with almost 25,000 strong membership. The more the merrier.

5) So that everyone will ignore the Esato statement: "Esato does not endorse tampering with the phone yourself. Unauthorized unlocking are unsupported by both SonyEricsson and Esato and it will void the phone's warranty" and void the phone's warranty in order to collect more for phone servicing or repairs.

6) So that ....... you guys figure out the rest !!!

Feel free to add more reasons why SE does not include these in their manuals .....

Because of adding say 12 pages of these so-called 'tricks' to each manual would require 6 extra sheets of paper (printing double-sided). Looking at figures in the combined GSM and japanese markets, they shifted 12.1 million units in the last two quarters. Assuming this were to at least remain constant, that would be 24.2 million units per year, each shipped with a manual - requiring a total of over 145 million extra sheets for the extra pages. Judging by the page size of the T610 manual (around 155cm2 per sheet, i.e. 0.155 m2) that would cover an area of 2.25 million m2 (nearly a square mile). Using say, 90gsm paper to print that area -- with no wastage -- would require over 200,000 kilos i.e. 202.4 tonnes of paper.

Now the important bit: it takes approximately 3.5 trees to produce 1 tonne of paper. 202.4 tonnes of paper would require seven hundred and nine trees per year !!!

A small forest to die for you!!
Could you live with that sap on your hands, tree-murderer!

I think that's a good enough reason why not...

EDIT: well I have revised my maths a little now I am more awake. Never was good at area. Anyway, you still get the point, it's a helluva lot of trees!!

...or perhaps SE realise that people don't really read the manuals anyway and just come here to Esato to find out all they need to know?

Because most people find the mauals way too complicated already. Most people couldn't care less about the items found in the service menu and do not get to the end of most menu trees anyway.

To my surprise, SE always gets bad points in consumer-tests because of the menu structure and the manual.

I find the maual ok and the menu structure very good. But that is because I have a weird mind.

sorry to disappoint manfran, but the photo was lifted from this website
doing a google image search is faster than using the camera attachment for the T68i (and my closest forest is very dark at 2am when i can't sleep!)

should start shipping a copy of ESATO forums on CD instead of the phone manual
If I had all the answers, I wouldn't have any questions.

i sympathise with u relentless, my manual is the orange uk version-- they edit all the useful stuff out of the SE version. needless to say, i shall be contacting orange to suggest that in future their manuals are printed on slightly more absorbent paper, preferably 2 ply and with perforations so i can recycle them myself...
