speed dial positions are from 2-9 and are taken from the SIM. 1 is used for voice mail, so the entries you want to speed dial to must be in SIM positions 2 through 9.
i used the Ericsson Phone Book and Text Message Manager to maintain the entries in SIM position 2 through 9.

do i need to erase the sim card memory if i want to assign the numbers to speed dial(the no. i want to put in the speed dial is not on the sim card 2-9) ...............thx!!!! |

no, just change the index number (you will see the index number in the program while browsing you SIM entries) of the existing entries in positions 2 - 9 (to move them), then put in the new number in positions 2 - 9. I normally sort my SIM by index number.
