I was watchin 'Click Online' on BBC News 24 today and they were talking about spyware.Anyway they gave this website address www.spywareguide.com/ which lets you download free anti-spyware and other stuff.
I have downloaded and run a scan with a program called SpyHunter and ended up with a list of Parasites which i can now delete.Here is an example;

Parasite=WinActive
Object Name=microsoft.url
Location=C:hpRegionfavsEN_USHP's Recomended Web SitesHP's Software information and supportMicrosoft.url
Type=File
Danger=Unknown

Am i right in thinking that this is something to do with my PC being a HP product and should be safe to leave as it is?

Here is another example;

Parasite=BackWeb Lite
Object Name={C1A95B70-E795-11D4-B96F-0010A4FBBFC9}
lOCATION=HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTTypelib{C1A95B70-E795-11D4-B96F-0010A4FBBFC9}
Type=Registry=Danger=Severe
Parasite Defenition=IE Toolbarand HomePage 'Hijacker'.A derivative of lop.com/C2

With the 2nd example saying 'Severe' under Danger and the word 'Hijacker' mentioned i'm getting a bit worried about my PC.
Can some knowledgeable fellow Esatoian please tell me one thing?

WHAT THE F**K! IS GOING ON HERE!!?!!

The first one looks harmless enough and does indeed just look like a bookmark for HP.

The second looks like one of those annoying programs which redirects your browser to some crap page when you enter an address and it cant be found.
Does this happen to u? I picked up one of these programs once and removed it with adaware.
As for saying its severe thats a bit of an exageration, its nothing more of an annoyance.

If ur browser does end up going to random crap pages some times then I would delete this file.

Hope this helps,

Simon

i'd advise downloading Spybot Search &Destroy from http://beam.to/spybotsd , it's real easy to use, has explanations of most of the stuff it finds (so you can decide easier whether to keep them or not), and even has immunization to help prevent future spyware from getting on your system

well, its a derivative of C" and c2 is BAD.
Ive had it before, it starts taking you to related sites. I.e. you type in the link, and it goes to the carphone warehosue, then whenever you open an intrenet explorer window, it goes fullscreen with a pr0n site.

I had that BackWeb thing installed on my packard bell, it was just a program that acted like a browser (hated it)

When i went to delet it was told to go to add/remove programs and unistall it from there, but it was'nt listed, so in the end i had to find every backweb file on my pc and del it myself!

Final got rid of the poxy program and dont wish for it to return!!!
