got the cover off... how do i replace the LCD? |

first of all, thanx to everyone who helped me (in an earlier post) find out how to get the cover off, which screwdriver to use, where to order a new LCD, etc.
before deciding to order the LCD though, i wanted to make sure i could do this. so today, i tried taking the cover off, and with the instructions at www.totonox.com/changecover/cover.htm i managed to get the cover off very easily.
then, i removed the keypad and the 2 screws holding the LCD panel in place. but then i got stuck--the LCD panel was still fixed solidly in place (and there were no more visible screws holding it to the green board). there are 2 more screws at the bottom of the green board (at the bottom of the phone), but i'm afraid that if i take those out and pull out the whole green board (which is fixed to the rear part of the phone), that i might be getting in too deep and not be able to put the phone back together (at least so that it works...). so for now, i've put it all back together (and everything seems to work--except the LCD of course!).
can anyone help me? has anyone changed the LCD? do i have to force it off the green board, or do i have to unscrew the last 2 screws holding the green board to the back of the phone, and pull the board out and then somehow pop out the LCD? help!
any assistance will be extremely appreciated!!!

Hi dont worry it's very easy to take the t68 apart it's one of the easyest of the ericsson phone's to open.
you will have to remove the circuit board to remove the LCD as you will damage the phone if you try and remove it when still fixed to the back cover.
once you have opened the phone remove the four black screws,
you will find the board will just lift apart from the back cover the LCD is only cliped to the board on both sides of the LCD you will see white clips turn the board upside down and prise the clips away from the board with you fingers and it will come off, to replace it is the same just clip it back on as you did to remove it.
( there is nothing that will drop out of the phone when you remove the board there is a metal plate that is behind the circuit board but that is all it can only go in one way so it's easy)
hope this helps you,
ps can i ask you why you need to replace the LCD?
if you have problems email me

thank you very much for the detailed reply, that's just what i needed!
i need to replace the LCD on my girlfriend's T68 because her phone accidentally got a car trunk slammed on it (ho hum...). very surprisingly, the glass screen didn't break, neither did anything else (all the functions still working fine), but the LCD is kaput...
thanks again for the answer. i will now order a new LCD ($50) and when i get it i'll try to replace it... |
