Has anyone managed to get the MMC reader that comes with the HPM-10 MP3 player to work with Windows XP???
I have tried plugging it in and it comes up as 'Shuttle EPATI REV# 00' but when I try to install the drivers that came with it it comes up with an error. I've also tried the drivers from the Ericsson site and from the SanDisk site, but they give me a blue screen on reboot...
Any ideas appreciated.

Had exact same issues with XP and the Parellel Reader
Solution before i drove head first into the first concrete wall i found:
Bought a $15 USB reader from CompUSA |

Okay, I think I have solved it.
To get the parallel port reader working, get the windows 2000 driver from the scnmicro site (ftp://ftp.scmmicro.com/dm/drivers/Ppmmc.zip).
Shut down your PC and plug in the parallel port reader.
Turn on the PC. When it auto detects the reader, hit cancel and install the scn windows 200 drivers.
Reload. You will get a blue screen - turn your pc off.
Disconnect the reader from the parallel port, but not the keyboard half.
Turn on the PC and after it has booted, plug the reader back into the port.
Go to the device manager, right click on your computer icon and hit 'scan for hardware changes'. The reader will be detected.
Now the mmc card will act like a removable disk.
I suggest using hibernate instead of shutting down fully as your pc will blue screen every time it attempts to boot up with the reader connected, so you will have to unplug, turn on and plug back in.
That's it. Hope you can get it to work. I know it's not 100% nice, but it has saved me buying a new reader.
Any other ideas, let me know.

This trick works nicely with the standard SE drivers.

Well, I have the XP driver problem for the HPM-10 as well. I tried the elaborate instructions from dickin from april 2nd 2002, on two different machines, and it didn't work. When I scan for hardware changes, I still get Shuttle Epati. Can anyone help? |

I've solved it this way. From a clean XP install, I never installed the whole ppmmc package thingy. I just "updated" the unrecognized device with the xp driver package from scmmicro. (The one that they say is "beta" driver and will not be supported) Works like a charm for me. If you've still go a problem feel free to pm me.

Chrisley,
when I installed I choose to find the files myself. ( epmmc2k ) and chose to install the mmc reader as a system device.
In the control panel--> system-->hardware-->device manager --> system devices....
I can see my 'parallel port multimediacard' installed there.
Are you in the UK?

Fregor and Ofiaich,
Thanks! "System device" was the magic word. I had tried installing manually before, but had chosen "storage device", for obvious reasons, and it didn't work. But everything is fine now!
Thanks again,
Ron
PS Yes, I'm in Birmingham, UK.

By the way, have you noticed how even after Windows says it is finished copying files to the MMC, if you remove the card from the drive, Windows will complain it hasn't finished? This will usually result in a corrupted file which you might not notice until halfway through playing it, only to find that you are getting data played back that was on the disk before! Then if you try to delete the file, you get more problems, eventually (possibly) requiring you to format the disk.
My workaround is to monitor the CPU usagae (via Windows Task Manager or Norton System Doctor). When copying files to the MMC, a process labelled "System" uses 90%+ of my CPU. When finished copying, CPU usage falls back to normal baseline. Then I can safely remove the MMC. It usually takes a copule of minutes to copy a 20MB file.
Is this useful to anyone?
