I'm having huge problems getting this thing working properly on an XP
PC.

I know it works, and the drivers on the CD are fine, because I can get
it all working on other PCs.

But on my PC whenever I install it, when it loads and the "initial
bluetooth configuration wizard" kicks off, and I'm supposed to get a
list of "services the compter will offer" the list is always empty,
and I know it shold have lots of things like PIM, FAX etc.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I've uninstalled and
re-installed several times. I've used previous bluetooth USB dongles
in the past, but all those are supposedly uninstalled.

The driver loads perfectly, it's just the damn application, once
installed fails on that initial wizard.

I have an admin-capable account, and I just spent the morning
re-installed XP, but I'm still having the same problem.

I'm sure that there's lingering bluetooth things in the registry or system directories from when I messed about with a Mitsumi bluetooth adaptor a few months ago, although all that software has been uninstalled, and the registry cleaned to the best of my abilities.

Thanks,

Hi, need a bit more info...
What's your phone?
Might be a dumb question, but have you initiated a pairing?
(especially from your phone first)
Have you put your phone into discover so it can 'search' for your dongle? Does the dongle come up as discovered?

I've spent many hours on BT myself lately.
Had a Belkin FT8001 that worked a treat on Win98 but not on my new Toshiba Tablet w XP; only a temporary attempt as was trying to get my 'onboard' BT module working which is now fine.

I'm not even getting that far. I should be given a list of services on the initial configuration wizard that the PC/bluetooth-adaptor can offer, then on the next screen you choose the device etc.

That's not been my experience.
Does the Wizard actually stop loading the s/w?
If it fully loads but you aren't getting any detect services options, I wouldn't even bother until you've actually got the two paired.
I believe it's get less chance of discovering services if it isn't paired.
In theory you shouldn't have to be paired to see a list of services but in practice I've tended to get paired first... at least in trying you'll know whether the devices can at least 'see' each other.

Don't despair... I've installed/de-installed, paired/unpaired - everything I could think of before getting a config that sticks (and hoping like hell it stays that way!)

Another tip is to actually turn your phone on and off a few times - believe it or not it can make the difference.

Again, what is your phone?

I've tried installing the adaptor on a "clean" XP PC that hasn't had any bluetooth or anything like that ever installed, and everything installs as per the instruction manual, i.e. I get all the services listed during the initial configuration wizard.

At the moment, I'm testing the connection with a Nokia 6310 but I'll be using a T610 when it arrives next week.

If I "skip" the services page, my device is discovered on the next screen, but there are no services listed that I can connect to. It's totally blank, the same as the initial services dialog.

Another obscurity is that when ever I write something in the "computer name" field it never saves it.

The problem is quite well documented here:

I'm off to try some of the suggestions!
