Probably said before but the forum is well out of date and a bugger to keep putting my password in and keep logging in maybe an upgrade to phpBB 2.0.5/6 cause it realy is "dated" sofware you are running realy spoils the fourm!

Have you contributed towards esato so they can pay for such an upgrade?

i actually prefer the old version of phpbb...

phpbb2 is too arty and crap.

plus upgrading the forum means updating all the mods that has been put on.. reinstalling the database etc etc...

tis too much hassle to do that on a forums that is so popular

LOL! phpBB is a free forum 100% to license needed unlike most. An upgrade would be easy very easy, ask for image well you can get new skins. Also phpBB 2.2 is the next bug release of the forum so this one will be 3 years old.

well I don't know about phpBB etc but the one biggest thing I would like to change here is the search. I'm quite adept and searching but I find I spend much more time than needed because it excludes so many words.

I had an example yesterday where someone listed a specific error message and I knew I had seen that before so I fed it into the search and the search excluded 4 of the 6 words! One of the remaining words was phone so you can imagine how many pages of search results I had to go through to find what I was looking for only to find that it really did have all the words I was after!

aaaarrrggghhh!

I've often wondered what is up with the search on this forum. Frequently I've entered an exact phrase from a post only a few days old and it can't find it. I hadn't realised it was excluding words...

I often end up listing all posts by a particular user (if I can recall who posted it) in order to find what I distinctly remember reading...

Oh well... entering search terms is a bit of an art form!

Whats the problem with logging in? I'm no PC techy but if it bothers you that much why dont you get yerself a form filler like i've got, which i dont even use on Esato anyway cus IE does it for me. Maybe your browser needs an upgrade! :-D

What's wrong with the forum the way it is anyway??

And updating it is not exactly 'very very very easy' as you say it. Tis a bit too massive to just update like that.... it would be a massive amount of work for our dear mods.

What I do not see is why the layout is bugging you so much. I find it very pleasant to use.

Only thing, as rightly pointed ut, is the useless search function. I find it often excludes the 'key' wordt to my search, leaving terms such as wap to be searched on...... and giving me some 100 pages of options very annoying.

Layout is finr for it's day, my worry is the software, it is very dated, quite slow in posting and realy it would be worth while updating it, phpBB2 is a huge improvment on this.

Some people mistake shape (packaging) for content (substance). They are commonly referred to as being shallow. I think the true value of Esato are the people and the exchange of ideas that happens at its core.
