Rogers AT&T vs. Fido ... eh? |

Hello all Canadians (esp Lower Mainlanders)....
I did a search in the forums to see if there was a clear cut winner on the great debate of weather to go with Rogers AT&T or Fido here in Canada. I found some threads from a year or so ago but nothing too recent.
I have been using a T68i since last November under the Rogers AT&T umbrella and have not been impressed with their service. I keep hoping that it is going to improve but just today I dropped a call driving from Surrey through to Burnaby.
I realize that Rogers is huge. Should I just wait for improved coverage? Does anyone have better experience with the Fido network here in Vancouver and Canada in general? I believe I could take my T68i from Rogers AT&T and get Fido to unlock it and sign me up on their plan... correct?
I can take some short term pain for long term gain however I've been in pain since last November. Fido vs. Rogers.... what do my fellow Canadians suggest????

I own a store that is in retail partnership with FIDO and Rogers. It really depends on what area you are in most of the time. Rogers is good for out of the country areas where Fido is poor. Fido is amazing in the city while rogers is average. Fido has no contract while Rogers has min. one year contract. Good luck with unlocking your phone with Fido tho, it will cost you a good 250. while i do it for 50 lol. Any ways anymore questions just ask me.

never been a big fan of rogers
fido has amazing GPRS, the fido to fido customer is free service, rogers cant send SMS over-seas whereas fido can (dun ask y, that's my experience)
fido has amazing roaming
fido also get better phones.. (not that I buy em from them)
also, if u put a rogers chip in a imported phone, the reception seems to suck arse, whereas a fido chip, it works great
I am not too keen on the contract thing
and I dont take anyone who uses rogers a real mobile user...

the reason why fido is able to send sms overseas is because Fido has been a full GSM network for many years while rogers is only beginning to set that up. Fido has many contracts with a lot of overseas companies therefore able to use their satelites to send sms internationaly while rogers has not been able to do that yet and cannot send sms overseas. F2F is amazing and i'm currently using that plan. Only bad thing is no minute tracker but ah well. Fido in general is better then rogers in my opinion

Thanks for the feedback guys.... keep em' commin. I think I am going to switch soon if the feedback is still this postive for FIDO.
Anyone around Vancouver care to comment?

I live in the Vancouver area and yes agreed out of town coverage is lousy except at hot spots like whistler and banff so on... but in the city and these hot spots the coverage is awesome! Most of the dealers I know that have high end phones esp. SE ones are all with Fido. and the one that switched to AT&T hates the service, but is stuck on a contract... harrrdy harrr harr... we all laugh at him now... and calls to him sound like: what??? I cant hear you... are you in a basement??? what??? your'e breaking up!!! meanwhile he is on the ground level of his house... too bad, but you get the pic'
choice is yours, you can save some bucks though by going on a contract but then again Fido always offers me an upgrade handset every 14 months at a very good deal, for example Nokia 8390 for $200 instead of $450 retail or SE t200 and Nokia 3390 for $78 instead of $200 or my p800 for $600 instead of $950... so its not too bad in the longrun, and their customer service has been much better that AT&T in my experience. Besides now all calls and sms between fido suscribers of the fido to fido plan are FREE!!! got my wife on that plan, great value.

Btw. The F2F package is unlimited text between Fido, so I could text someone from Fido in another Prov. and it would still be unlimited.

is it only for monthly customers or it also applies to pay as u go?
for instance, I'm a monthly customer, if I call someone on pay-as-u-go, will it be free for the both of us?

If you are subscribe to the F2F package, whether you receive calls or dial calls to any Fido number, a number subscribe to Fido, whether prepaid or monthly, then you have unlimited option. The person who is receiving or dialing the calls will be billed.

well you can change your plan with Fido with absolutely no charge. It comes with 100 daytime minutes, 1000 min after 7 pm and unlimited local calls between Fido subscribers including text msgs for $25. You can also add the F2F unlimited to your existing plan for an extra $10. In my opinion the smallest plan you can get is $20 for 200 min, for an xtra $5 you can 1000 after 7 and unlimited F2F.b

my plan is
20$ for 200mins
25$ free evenings and weekends
50$ unlimited GPRS
it works perfect so far
cant call long distance, and no need for roaming
I hv a roaming plan in some other country
