Hokay here's how it is - I wanna be able to browse the net on my laptop, using my t68i as a modem. I'm on o2 (old genie), and have unlimited free wap on my phone so I thought I'd try using that number to dialup & get free internet access. & it almost works! Connects fine, downloads the first page or so fine, but then just stops working - won't receive any data. The amount it receives before stopping varies between about 1k & 35k.
I'm not getting charged for the calls but it's a right pain having to reconnect all the time!
Anyone got any ideas as to what's happening?

Cheers

I have exactly the same problem. Are you using the 915000 number?

I have the solution, but it's a secret and i'm not telling, because after i figured out how to stop the disconnections they took away my free gsm :-( oh ok then, I'll bet you always surf wap with Gprs on your phone don't you? I did until one time Gprs was down so i had to use gsm on my phone. After many tries on my mac and 2 min cut offs, this time was different. It stayed connected for 50 mins.To put it simply, before dialling up on your pc,connect to wap using gsm on your phone then hang up..someone post

Nope just the same... it doesn't actually disconnect me - just stops receiving any data after an apparently random (but short!) amount of time...

Thanks anyway...

Heh, ran out of space and can't post on top of my own wap message. Yeah i know it doesn't actually dc. So did you go online with gsm dialup wap on your phone, then disconnect and dial up on your pc? This always worked for me when i realised it.

Hey about 10 months ago I used to MAJORLY use out the free unlimited CSD WAP on my old Genie chip for about 3 months till I got a land line! LOL

I was on there for like at least 8 hrs everyday without getting disconnected (only when the phone died)

I used 2 use my trusted but now defunct Nokia 7110 and my laptop to download games and music from Kazaa (Boy was it slow or wot!)
The connection was 9.6kbps I think, I dont remember if u can do 14,400kpbs (mayb thats Orange?)

I was scared that they would stop my free acces due to excessive usage, as I had read had happened to countless othersm but they never caught on!

I only had to top up £10 once every 6 months as theyr systems were crap, althou now I do sometimes get an odd txt every couple of months saying I have used up my allowance etc. Days of freebies are slowly coming to an end!

I have read people get free GPRS, but when I connect via GPRS it charges!

Hell I got free GPRS on Orange but it would still be handy to know if free GPRS on my Genie chip is possible?

Try adding a fixed DNS on your connection. Solved my problems.
