Hello all,
I've had my T610 for a couple of months, and have been browsing this forum for information. I started reading a thread about firmware, but it was full of confusing stuff!
Csn somebody explain to me, in simpleton terms (!), what firmware is, how do I know what firmware I'm on, and where do I get it ugraded? I live in the West Midlands, UK.
That would be very much appreciated!
Thanks very much,
Chris. |

Firmware is the software pre-installed in your phone that makes it work. It contains the phones Operating System, menu graphics etc.
To find out what Firmware you have, you move the joystick and press * in the following sequence from the 'operator logo' screen:
> * < < * < *
then choose "Service info" then "Software Information". The first 6 digits you see are your firmware version. Currently it'll either start R1A or R1L.
R1L013 is the latest as of today.
For you, Gittins Communications, 1859 Pershore Road, Cotteridge Birmingham, B30 3DJ Tel: 0121 486 1010 Open: Monday to Friday is your nearest SE Service Centre. Phone them up and arrange a time to get it upgraded. |

Cheers for that!
My phone is on R1A081 at the moment, how old is that?
Where can I find a list of SE service stations? Is there one in Bristol or Bath?
Cheers,

R1L has been out for about 6 weeks. R1A is the first and only other released firmware version.
Phone on 08705 237 237 to find out where a Service Centre is. DON'T go to Carphone Warehouse at Cribbs Causeway in Bristol though. Apparently CPW are not authorised to do firmware upgrades (although they will) and they have messed up some peoples phones on Esato.

Thanks for that!
Is it not possible for me to download the latest firmware? or is it more difficult than that?

@chrisgreen82:
You can find and download the firmware on the internet, however you can't simply upload it to your phone. It is possible to use a 3rd party online flashing service, but you will need a special cable and it will void your warranty.
The safest way to upgrade the firmware is to take the phone to a service center. The upgrade is free during the warranty period.
