On my PC I estimate it lasts about 20 minutes because after that the new post count starts again from zero (since my last visit.. it says)

SO how come (and I know this has been discused before, but not resolved to my satisfaction), my home PC running XP *persistently* says I have about 140,000 new posts?! The cookie never expires....

My vaio is currently being repairted at Sonyso I borrowed by Sons vaio and it exhibited the same problem so I did a search for any cookie containing ESATO and deleted it. I also went to "edit your preferences" and made sure "Store my username in a cookie for 1 year.:" was set to yes and even if it was I clicked the "Save preferences" button and that all seemed to fix that new post count problem.
