p800 returned from SE USA with NEW issue |

Folks,
I sent my P800 into SE USA because, due to the ancient version of the software (please excuse me if I've not typed the right term for the version of the organizer, phone, bluetooth and CDA here) running on the phone, I was having all kinds of intermittent issues, SMS issues, sync issues, etc...
It works great now that it's updated to the latest versions of the various software (again, apologies if i've used an incorrect term) but with a brand new problem...
...instead of the awesome color display, the screen is now in gray-scale only. I'll happily swear on a stack of bibles that the display was color when I sent it in.
The issue has been escallated to Sony Ericsson's escallation department and they've informed me that they'll be happy to send out a replacement phone. Unfortunately they also say that the P800 is backordered and they can't give me an ETA on it's arrival.
Now, I'll skip the rant about not being able to get the phone number and having to speak with SE Escallation via email ONLY and the rant about being sent back a phone in this condition in the first place...
My question is simply this: is there anything else anyone can think I might try to restore the color on the display other than what I've already done? I've done some searching through the forum and haven't stumbled across anyone with quite the same problem as mine...

I put my p800 in for repair because it stopped calling out 3 weeks ago and still havent had it back  although they say i will have it back early next week. Sony Ericcson service sucks |

Actually I have the same problem where my P800 is still in SE service centre. I don't wish for a replacement from them as it could be a refurbished handset and apart from that, I've converted it in full mineral grey before it happened.

How long has the service center had it?
I'm not so concerned if I get a refurb'ed phone as long as SE warantees it for the same length as a new phone I'll be happy but I understand the concern...
...I have to wonder about the phone I have: I purchased it "new, in the box" from an ebay seller and it did arrive in a sealed box with the bag that protects the phone sealed as well.
Maybe this is what happens when some of the earlier rev. P800's are flashed to the latest software?
Also, weirdly, my C: drive has no name and most of the folders are empty. I wished I knew what should be in which folder and what not... Maybe the problem is something as simple as a missing .ini...
Oh well, I guess I'll just be waiting on SE to send me a new phone... Too bad: I've just figured out how to use escummv... The games would be MUCH cooler in color than shades of gray!
