I have had my P800 since Feb(First one in Australia!!!!!) and I have not made an upgrade on it, I dont even know what version I have, had no dramas at all, ok maybe two TODs but that is it.

So why do and upgrade??

and Do you think that it has worked better with your upgrade or how it comes standard???

Dont get angry with SE as they didnt develope the software!! They buy it!

I have the R2F firmware, and I havent noticed any fixes at all. I had the R1D and it was quite the same I must say.
Actually, I think theres a bug at the R2F that I didnt have at the old firmware - every now and then I get this error that tells me to hold the power key for 10 secs, and by what I saw here at esato - many people who upgraded have this error as well.
Another bug I have only since the upgrade, is that all of my applications list suddenly disapears sometimes, and I have to restart the phone. also - you can read about this bug here at esato as well.

but the bottom line is that after all its still the best phone ever, and 99% of the time it works great !! just not sore you should upgrade.

does master reseting or format internal disk erase the upgrade and bring you back to your original firmware when you bought it? [addsig]

mine seems a little more stable since the upgrade 2 R2F 2 month ago.
but it wasnt exactly unstable before.

To the people who have had unstable upgraded models...

Was you P800 unstable before?

@P800_Zen_master
as Kylie Minogue once said "better the devil you know". i have R2D and it is stable enough. i have only had p800 for nearly 3 months and in that time i had 6 TODs. what version are you running? there is no point upgrading for the sake of it if you think the latest version is unstable. if you have your phone since Feb i assume you are running an old if not one of the first versions of firmware. i thought i saw somewhere on this site a post detailing the differences in versions, might be worth looking at to see what benifits there are between your current and the latest versions. i intend to send my p800 off to be upgraded before the year waranty runs out. hope you dont mind the Kylie joke at the start

@kitp800
thanks that was the main questio I wanted to know.

The Kylie Joke!!! I am a big Kylie fan, thought it was funny! Plus she is from australia, so am I! and she is SO HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason why I asked the question is that I seem that people upgrade and then they still have dramas. I am quite happy with my phone and I dont think that I will upgrade it, I dont even know what version I am running and never bothered to look because I am so happy of how stable it is. I do know it is a old version because I have had the phone for such a long time.

But I figure that the hardware was designed for the firmware version and these were tested! I am sure that there are different versions of the phone and they improved things a little and made some changes also including a firmware upgrade. However putting a firmware upgrade on an old model phone that was not tested with SE it could lead to problems and make it unstable

could this be true??

@P800_Zen_master

It might be worth checking if your SE center can 'downgrade' your fone.

If they still have the older flashes, you could have the upgrade and simply swap back if you were unhappy with the new version.

If my theory is correct then you wouldnt have any probs with upgrade part.

If you do have it done, i'd wait a week for the fone to settle down before making a final decision, that way you will know if you need/want the extra features...

here's my view, with
R1d i had ToD about 20 times along with memory problems etc sms memory probs..
i upgraded last week here ln lreland,(i believe they told me mine was the 1st P800 they'd done!) and since then i've had 1ToD and that was when ld put my sim back ln after collection!

most of the memory problems from what i can gather ls Symbian related with most if not all Symbian phones-Having similar probs

if u have a chance to upgrade go for it, ln my Opinion your phone wont be any worse off!

I'm running-

Phone Software: R1D
Bluetooth: R2C
CDA: R2A04

How far behind am I in the firmware-uprgading race?
Is it absolutely necessary to upgrade?
Is my phone lacking major features?
