Any working Instant Messenger clients for the T610? |

Yeah I've been looking for a way to chat on my phone other than through SMS.
I'm not sure if this can happen, though, 'cause apparantly the T610 is missing socket technology? That would really suck, for it would rule out chatting, as well as online gaming.
I'm really just after an AIM client, but ICQ and MSN, or maybe even Yahoo!.
mmmmmmm.... AIM on phone....... *drools*
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.
PEACE.

It has to be something called "socket support". T610 dosnīt have this.
Otherwise u can do it with wap. Itīs not the same but..

It's funny cos the T610 was going to have AIM pre installed - just check through the text labels & there is add buddy, buddy list etc etc

wait, so there is NO way to get things like multiplayer WAP games or Instant Messengers? That's stupid. What was Sony Ericsson thinking?
I guess I'll have to get a WAP one. *calls T-Mobile*

If you can use SMS with AIM (as T-Mobile provides) and the T610 came with the Chat item in Messaging menu (as T-Mobile removed from the T610...go figure), you can get close to an actual AIM IM app using that. There are ways around the lack of socket connections but it requires a server-side solution in addition to something on the client. There's one java app out there that can provide MSN on the T610 but it's nasty enough that I deleted it pretty quickly and didn't keep the url handy. But it is possible and probably just a matter of time before something usable is available. |

It could be actually possible via UDP datagram or HTTP...but a bit tricky I guess. I saw the text labels as well, maybe they are planning something in the future firmware versions...

There is a port 80 http interface to msn but no luck with it here thus far. Again, just a matter of time, I'm sure.

It IS possible to have MSN and AIM and ICQ etc. on your T610, but we need an HTTP proxy. I have a complete working source code of mMSN v0.85 just the HTTP proxy needs to be entered, Where do we get it? |

There is a Jabber IM proxy system called JPT available.
With jabber you can connect to other IM systems via add-ins.
I use it to connect to my jabber account AND some hotmail accounts and it works fine.
The only real downside is that you have to keep hitting "refresh" since there is no WAP equivalent of HTTP "push".
That said - it works pretty well

mwright, I just tried to set that up on my website, but I don't really get how Jabber works... so... I couldn't. I didn't know how to login once I got all of the stuff installed. (what's my username/password?? I feel stupid...)
whatever. there's got to be an easier way!!

DO you already have a jabber account (JID) - something@jabber.org for example.
If not - you will need to get one.
PM me an email address and I will try to help you

I've kind of given up because I can get most software for my Palm, which is connected through Bluetooth with my phone.

You can send and receive instant messages on AIM via WAP when used in conjunction with AOL Mobile. They will send you a personal WAP link.
Have fun |
