i dont really remember the area, but there was this CARPHONEWAREHOUSE next to the cinema.. i know am being a bit stupid, but i've jsut been to london a couple of times, and havent memorized the place's name yet.. need more time.. anyways, i went there and asked them how much time they would need to upgrade, and they said about a day or two, because they will send it to their main store, and do the upgrade there...
the carphonewarehouse should be one of the places, oxford street, edgware road, picadilly, to say the truth, dont trust me on places, but about the carphonewarehouse am 100% sure... and it was just a normal shop, dont think it was a upgrade point... just let him go to any carphonewarehouse shop.. they should do it... |

Mate, go to Car phone warehouse on baker street, central london.
They are brilliant there - Leave your phone in the morning - pick it up in the afternoon. No probs. |

I got mine done in the Carphone Warehouse on Oxford St (the flagship store, by John Lewis.) You shouldn't need proof of purchase. If they tell you that, ask to see the manager. I bought mine in the Orange Shop and they did it for me no hassle. Because Carphone Warehouse have a contract with SE they are obliged to upgrade the firmware on all SE phones free of charge. (Though some of the staff don't know what they're on about and will correct you, saying "ah you want to get the software upgraded..." just be patient with them!)
Oh yes there's also a store on Finchley Road but it's a long way from Finchley Road station as I discovered! Also one in Greenford will do it.
WORDS OF WARNING:
If they tell you it will take 2 or 3 days, tell them you know others who have had it done in 1 day (sometimes even 5 hours or so.)
BACK UP YOUR PHONE FIRST. This is extremely important as you will lose all your data!
