after doing the ">*<<*<*" key combination i was able to access a hidden "service" menu. option 1 is "service info" and then option 2 within that menu is "simlock." ok, here's what i'm getting:
network (locked icon) 1
network subset (open icon) 1
service provider (open icon) 1
corporate (open icon) 1
can you guys tell if my phone will be able to use a SIM card from another operator? this is an Ericsson T68 AT&T branded phone, but i bought it online on ebay and the seller sold it as completely UNLOCKED. what do you guys think? |

if the lock for "network" is locked it means it's locked to a network provider... and since it's a AT&T branded phone it's most likely locked to AT&T contact AT&T if you want to have it unlocked (for a small charge) |

i just can't believe it. this guy sold me the phone as "completely unlocked" for something around US$150 a couple of weeks ago on ebay.
i wanted to use the phone with a GSM operator in buenos aires, argentina (my company is transfering me there later next month). ok, would AT&T unlock the phone for me even if i'm not a subscriber to their services here in the US? |

don't know... but you don't loose anything buy asking them just tell them that you have bought it second hand.
you should always be careful when buying on ebay... |

tks for the quick replies cytech! i'm e-mailing the ebay guy right now, but i'm also gonna try calling AT&T just in case. you never know, right? also, as a last resort, can i have the phone unlocked using another alternative/method? |

i'm out of luck with AT&T. it seemed like the guy didn't even want to hear about unlocking a phone. i was told that their phones cannot be unlock under any circumstances whatsoever and that they don't provide customer support to "second hand" phones and/or accessories. |

the number next to the icon tells you how many tries you have left of locking/unlocking (= entering the right code).... |

i guess there's only one try left on mine then. i'm still waiting to hear back from the guy i bought the phone from on ebay, but i'm begining to feel a little ripped off. i just tired that same key combination on my wife's T300 (T-Mobile / USA) and she has 15 tries left on all the settings.
is there a way of unlocking my phone without having to buy a data cable or taking/shiping the phone somewhere? or, is there a way to find out what the AT&T code is to unlock it for good? |
