I cannot get my P800 to connect to my PC, I am using the DSS-20 and trying to connect via the USB port. When I connect the phone the phone connection link icon in the system tray becomes active and the triangular waveform sweeps through and does not move from that state, when I look at the properties USB (com3) is ticked and its state is "connecting". I have tried uninstalling anr reinstalling a number of times including the last time the latest version of the S/w from the Sony Ericsson website. I am using WinXP and have tried disabling all applications including anti-virus S/w but cannot move forward.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

@pnorris

Uninstall PC suite.
Downlaod PC Suite 1.5.1 (or later if it's available yet?)
Uninstall *all* PC USB drivers.
Ensure phone/cradle/PC etc connected.
Reboot, and let USB drivers auto detect.
Install PC Suite.
Bingo!

Have fun...

Many thanks for quick reply. I followed your suggestions but unfortunately I still have the same problem.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated

What operating system are you running?
Have you tried using a different COM port? (I know you are running through USB, but it's possible to change the COM port number in the advanced properties for the COM port (windows 2000/XP)). You can also experiment with turning off the FIFO buffers.
If I had all the answers, I wouldn't have any questions.

I am running winXP home Edition. I have tried changing the COM port number but no change, I could not see where to turn the FIFO buffers on and off. I have flow control set to "None" by default is this correct? What should the P800 be set to in the cable tab under the control panel

Thanks

@pnorris - you did **exactly** as I said?

I (initially) successfully got my P800 installed - but then I had this problem too, exactly as you describe...

I put up a post about this about a month ago, and had some replies - the ultimate (and agreed) solution was what I posted higher up this thread....

Steven. :?

I'm stumped then... Hmmm!

Disconnect the DSS-20 cradle from the PC. Remove the phone from the cable.

When you plug the DSS-20 cradle back in (try using a different USB port), the PC registers this doesn't it..yes? If so, then there's no problem with the DSS-20 cradle.

With the charger on, place the phone in the cradle, ensuring it's seated correctly. Is the green light on the front of the DSS-20 cradle illuminated? Does the phone make a tone when you seat it in the cradle?

I am presuming that you had no problem installing the PC suite software, and you did so with everything connected and the phone in the cradle, correctly seated? The install would have attempted to access the internet - this wasn't prevented was it?

I really am stumped though...

When I plug the DSS-20 cradle back in using a different USB port the PC does register it.

The green light on the front of the DSS-20 cradle does illuminate and it does make a tone when you the phone is seated it in the cradle?

The installation of the PC suite software seemed error free, and the phone was connected by being sat in the cradle which in turn was connected to the PC. I was unaware that the install attempted to access the internet, so I assume it managed to do it ok.

Have you tried rebooting your P800? Maybe the error is on that side.
If I had all the answers, I wouldn't have any questions.

how do I reboot my P800?

Is it a matter of switching it off and back on again?

Pnorris,

I had this problem until yesterday and when I disabled the Internet Security, it worked.

Try this and post your response on the forum

@pnorris

Generally, a 'reboot' means to switch off/on. However, here I recommend you hold the off button for 10 seconds...and watch the display slowly fade away......

Come on Man, get it working! The suspense is killing me....!
