Hiya,
Sorry if this has been covered, don't want to upset you all on my first post here! [:)] I did try searching but it showed around 4700 results, and at 02:15am, I dun't feel like going thru them all
I'm expecting my loveley P800 to arrive on Friday morning, I finally got round to odering one after reading this forum and deciding I'm missing out on something good!
To the point however, I've been browsing thru lots of software on my-symbian.com and downloading shedloads also, thing is, a lot is in .sis format, which my computer at present, doesn't recognise. When I install PC suite will my computer know how to handle them? Where do I put them on the actual phone?
Sorry to pose so many questions, I just want to make sure everything works when the time arrives *g*

When you install the PC sfotware and have the phone in the cradle working and all. The .sis will be like a .exe it just asks if you want to install it to the phone when you double-click it.
Everyone is new at the beginning. You will understand it better once you have the phone.

And once you have your wap-GPRS and email-GPRS data accounts et up, you can browse and download the .SIS straight to the phone.
You've ordered a P800...you're in for a treat! Welcome to teh club.
Steven.

so the .sis is like a self extracting zip, that sounds simple enough Thanks all those that replied, and thank you for my welcome to the club I'm getting a bit impatient waiting for it to arrive! I'll try and pass the time by reading every post on this forum

Well now that you have ordered a P800 I suggest you also order one or five (:P) 128MB Magic Gate Memory Stick DUO too! So you can have loads of apps and OGG files (not nasty mp3 files ) I use www.dbpoweramp.com to convert my cds to OGG using 64kbps mono 44100 hz. (You will understand once you installed the program and put in a cd in the cd-rom)

Yes, I shall in time be oderering some new memory for my phone, but it may have to wait a few weeks, as buying 5 at a time will be majorly expensive *g*
I got it for £194 in the end, is this a good price? V. happy with Vodafone's agreement to let me pay it off over 10 months interest free, saves me having a £350 phone bill when I get invoiced!
I understand the phone comes with memory included, how much is it? 16 or 32 mb?

I know... I just wish I could afford 5. But I got one. =)
Yup I think it's a good price. And it's a 16 mb MSDUO.

Gah, 16 isn't much, will just be able to install Doom on that, maybe some other software.
How much did your 128 stick set you back mate? Expansys seem to have a good price of £51.41, plus next day delivery, which is nice
Simon
What to do until tomorrow morning? This is distressing!

I think my 128 costed me about $99 or something. On www.p800er.com I also ordered martin overlay plus protections thingy. They say it's good to have, but I dont see a difference. I don't keep my phone where it can get scratched. Mine still looks like brand new.

Forget playing Doom, arcade games are largely a waste of time as the controls are poor. Where the P800 absolutely excels is with the utilities/applications that you can get hold of. Don't get me wrong, there are a number of good arcade games available, but you'll have more fun with the startegy-type games. Fantastic piece of kit it is, GBA SP it ain't!
Also, the .SIS files are not like self-extracting .ZIP files, more like the .CAB Windows (TM) installation files. PC Suite, and the P800 understand that the .SIS is an installation file, and execute it as such.
OGG player is excellent!!!; .OGG files at the sampling rate suggested above are about 1/3 the size of .MP3 files, and the dbPowerAMP software is a cinch to use. The OGG files sound really fantastic, but with an average 5 min song at 2.1-2.5MB, you'll need that 128MB MSD to get 4-5 albums on there!!
Good choice tho'.
Steven.

*nodz* I might invest in one, but I heard the phone comes with a case anyway, true? My 6310i looks brand new atm, but that said this PATICULAR one is only around 5 months old, as I've had so many firmware problems with it that it's been sent back, a new one handed to me at the store, and this keeps happening, so I have a pretty much brand new, albeit slow N6310i!
