Yep its dead. When switch it on i get the Opening mp4 then in freezes I did nothing to cause this, what happened was i was sending a mms and then it crashed. The 10 sec restart did nothing. The good news is the nice people at orange are sending me a new one by courier tomorrow
But what i want to know is why it crashed so badly? software was R1--
**edit just seen the post about full memory, The c drive had at least 2mb left on as everything is stored on the 128mb duo**

Not good mate.
I have a question to ask tho. When you get your new phone could you let me know what firmware version it is. I live a very long way from a service point so I would have to send my phone away to get it upgraded and they said they have a 7-10 day turnaround (that's a long time to be without my P800).
I was just thinking that if Orange send a new phone the next day with the newest firmware I could tell them the same thing has happened to me as you've had. When they agree to send me a new one I can either let them have my phone as it is, in all it's working glory or I could do a sneaky one and butcher the orange startup movie so that the phone hangs on turning it on.
This way I get the firmware upgrade and I'm not without my phone.
I know it sounds a bit bad gaining from your bad luck. I'm sorry to hear your phone died, I know how I'd feel if mine did.

Mines deaded too It comes up with a nice little message "Network Error: Invalid Mobile" after turning it off and on it works for a little while then does it again. After a nice chat with those friendly people at T-Mobile (one of which put the phone down on me, bastid) they reluctantly gave me the number for sony :| |

Hi,
see my forum 35 thread. I've experience the same (with the difference that I took pictures instead of compiling / sending mms). Is seemed like memory is OK (close to full...) but Symbian doesn't like this and holds the system. The only way out is flashing it again. The only way to prevent is it taking good care of your last 1MB C drive.
BTW: there must be some Java of C++ guru who can write a oneline agent checking the memory... (I can't do it myself, I'm just a manager)

The plot thickens....I have just discovered the one thing which all P800 owners dread. I have a small bit of dust under my screen...noooooooo!!!!
I think this has just swung it, I'm going to call Orange later and tell them my phone has died and hopefully tomorrow I'll have a dust free P800 with the newest firmware.
Fingers crossed.
Just got to remember not to call them from my P800, now that would be stupid. I better not break it until I see the courier turn up with my new one either. |

Mine has only every crashed once in three months, I think if you generally keep good control of what you are putting on your phone, keep the C drive as empty as possible, close down any apps which you are not using and maintain you files to keep an eye on any horrendous apps like Appforge, which like to put things all over the place just to annoy you, then it will not crash as often.
I have no real need to upgrade, the full screen video doesn't sound like it's going to change my life (especially since the camcoder has it now). Full screen pictures I already have. The night mode on the camera doesn't exactly do what it says on the tin. 'Slightly less bright than before, but don't push your luck sonny' mode seems more like it. If I want to take pictures without the shutter sound I do that really taxing move of putting my phone on silent and at my current rate of using the timer function I might use the variable time once before it's time for a new model phone.
I know there are many more things in the upgrade including full screen browser, sms delivery reports, picture freeze timer, more audio types and the supposed stability issue. It's just a shame that SE haven't come around to upgrading via your pc yet. For those of us who live at the back of beyond it would change everything.
Thank god Orange don't have a clue when it comes to phones though. It can be annoying when you have a genuine problem (that's when you come to places like this) but when it comes to getting things out of them through talking technical at an operator until they just give up and give you what you want, they can't be beaten
Well that's my bit said, that's if anybody could be bothered to read it all hehe Does it show that I'm bored at work with nothing to do at all?? |
