I'm assuming you're using windows...
After plugging in the cradle does windows ask you to install the drivers?
If yes, then just point to the folder where you unpacked the driver files for the cradle
If no and your computer (particularly the phone monitor residing in the systray) still can't see the p800 then go to the control panel > system > hardware tab > device manager > and see if your cradle is installed and doesn't have an exclamation point inside a yellow dot. If it does, then double-click on it then click on the driver tab and click on update driver and when it asks you where the files are located just point it to the folder where you unpacked the drivers
If none of the above fits your scenario then please provide us with the details so we can give you a better assistance
Can't say for sure if the problem is related with windows. I have mine working under Win2000 with service pack 4, WinXP Pro with service pack 1 and Win2003

Do any of you have applications that might interfere with the com ports?

Uninstall all your P800+mobile phone software, everything!
Download the P800 1.5.1 suite from the WWW site.
Form the control panel, remove/uninstall *ALL* USB drivers.
Reboot the PC.
Unpack/install the 1.5.1 suite, with the cradle/P800 all connected up.
...and keep your fingers crossed!
steven.
