At the top of the screen near where it says "My Account" click on "Edit your preferences" and choose your "Rank Model". It will gradually fade in as you make more replies.

I think, that you must have over 100 post to have a clear avatar.

Actually having looked at the help, it depends on the phone model avatar you use and it can vary between 50 - 150.

after setting up an extensive research project, at great personal expense to myself in both time and money, I can conclusively report that the correct answer is that the avatar is fully visible on the 50th post!

Fritz, correct, the only other exception is the gold T68 with the blinking indicator lights which becomes visible at 100 posts
you can see the details for all this here btw
edit: looks like there might be a problem later this year when (if) my posts hit 9999!

yeah, some sort of trophy perhaps! but no, I've never put any great weight on post count but this certainly would appear to be a system limit. maybe I'll just vanish in a puff of smoke...
... or perhaps laffen could just add 90000 to the maximum number
