I recently noticed that there is equipment for purchase on the web that let's us make backups of simcards. This raises 2 questions in my mind that I hope some people here can shed some light on:
1) Is it legal? (even if it's your own simcard)
2) What happens when 2 phones with identical simcards installed are both switched on at the same time? Would the mobile network detect it? and if so, what, if anything, would they do about it?
Look forward to your opinions!

As far as i know they only copy the content on the sim-card, like SMS, phonebook and so on. It does not copy the SIM-cards ID.
We use one of these "copymachines" at work and itīs nice and quick, bu i doubt it would be useful at home... |

There is a SIM cloning kit originating from Taiwan which allows you to clone several SIM cards into 1 so that you don't have to switch SIM. Apparently it is legal in Taiwan. But I have seen it offered for sale on the net in various European countries.

If 2 identical SIM cards are detected by the provider, inevitably both cards will be "disabled" and "rejected" by the network, and their fraud department will call you.

right. its only content that is copied..
i hav cardman 2020 smartcard reader ans i can do thiz stuff too, even change pin codes:D actually this cardreader i bought for digital ID card for signing digital documents and loggin in to internetbank and checking all those goverment documents about myself and stuff
heh man that info was irrelevant but..
i found that cardreader very useful when i had to copy content of my bosses nok*a 8910 to his brand new p800, i suggested him to by it:D
that nok*a BT + IBM laptop w BT + THAT CRAPPY NOK*IA software
= result
and result = nil zero null nothing 0 void
not to mention ir link between tat same ibm and nokie = 2ndResult
and 2ndResult = result
so i had to use simcard.. imagine how painful it wd be to delete all 250 contact from simcard one by one.. none of those 3 phones i had in use could not send all contacts to /dev/null at once
so there was my cardreader.. really nice toy:D
+ now i hav my bosses contacts stored.. just in case somthing hapens to his copy
enough said , btw thiz is my 10th post.. i sould get my phone picture visible?? Right?? |

Well just wanted to say that YOU can clone simcards...
(I have tried this 1 year ago, with my and my fathers)
It isn't that hard to do it and when you burn the image on a "GoldCard" it works as it would on a simcard...
But there is more...
You can have 2 different sim's on one goldcard... (4 on a SilverCard)
The clone works as any simcard would (and some say that the clone is faster then the original)
(sorry for my bad english, just woke up)
Edit: I don't kow if it's ilegal to clone your own, but it sure is ilegal to clone someone elses... (You have to steal his card so you can clone it, don't you?)
