Apologies if the answer has already been posted - I searched but couldn't find it.

I have an R380s (for posterity) with software versions:
"Phone R1A06"
"Organiser R1A07"

It says here: http://wap.sonyericssonmobile.com/software.asp?product=R380&view=R380eSync that there are various newer versions of the both the Sync software and the phone software. Does anybody have R2A02? Do you know what is different? Is it more reliable? Is it superceded by the R380e software?

Thanks

the latest SW for R380s is:

Phone: R1D05 (010205 1240)
Organizer: R4A07 (010417 1330)

The R2A02 (Phone) and R5B04 (Organizer) versions are for R380e.... however, you can update your R380s to the same software as R380e has...

since you have one of the firts releases I would recommend you to update your phone... it's free of chages if you still have warranty on the phone.

what sw version does he has?
he could try to do a master reset (will erase everything he has stored, like phonebook, messages, calender etc and set all settings to default) and then try again

make sure the settings for the mail are correct... if it still shows an error message leave it to a servicepoint... a software upgrade can help in this case since the sw is old...

so it's not fatal at all? (the "sw corrupt")
is there a very big difference between my existing Sw version and the latest?

thanks again!

could be... R380 is sensitive against sw errors... it might just help with a sw upgrade, else it's a replacement phone that's the only solution...
the differences between your sw version and the latest sw for R380s is not big when it comes to the layout and functions, but the new sw corrects many bugs in the software.

Can the R380s firmware be upgraded to R380e at a Sony Ericsson Service center through EMMA II server or should it be done through the unauthorised route?

yes it can be upgrade at an offical servicepoint, just remember that if you have a backup from before the upgrade this can't be used once the phone has the R380e firmware... so if you want to save contacts, calender and notes, sync it with outlook.
